PR Conferences: Which Are the Best?
It’s video blog time! This week a real video instead of my Blair Witch Project-esque video of the Great Chicago Blizzard.
The Arment Dietrich Facebook question of the week comes from Erica Allison, founder of Allison Development Group.
She asks, “OK, because it’s on my mind and I’m planning my educational opps for the year, which two conferences are a MUST ATTEND for a PR pro working in social media? I’m a PRSA member and of course thinking I should head to Orlando in October. But what about the social media conferences? Social Slam? Others? Thanks!”
I have one not-to-be-missed conference in today’s video, but leave the second recommendation to you.

LikeHappy Birthday, Gini! Cheers! :) I totally want to catch up with you at Blogworld if you end up going. Vegas + bloggers = great time.
It's not particularly a PR conference, but I feel like the SocialFresh events always draw good content, crowds of cool kids and they are pretty affordable. Also a bit more intement in terms of settings. The next one is later this month in Tampa (where it's MUCH warmer than Columbus or Chicagoland) - http://socialfresh.com/tampa/

LikeI agree that Counselors Academy always provides lots of good learning and networking. If the question is about social media conferences, I think Blogworld provides the best learning. Not only because of content but because everyone there is SO into it. It is a conference of the most social media-immersed folks around. Last year I went directly from Blogworld to PRSA International and I was pretty dissapointed with the lack of energy around social at PRSA. Felt like a lot of the people there approached it as a "have to do" rather than a "want to do," completely the opposite of Blogworld.
Happy Happy Gini! Hard to imagine you won't have a great day!

LikeCounselors' Academy gets another vote here. Cannot miss. I think part of what sets it apart is that we can find professional development everywhere - but the business side of our business is possibly the biggest challenge for a lot of us. And that, and the friends and networking, are what make it big for me.

Likeginidietrich Happy birthday, again and again and again and again. :) EricaAllison I've found the last few PRSA conferences terrific and hope to make it to Orlando as well.
A completely "different" kind of event - I can't really call it a conference - that I personally got a lot out of was Ignite DC, organized by geoffliving and his cohorts. It's like a mini-TED: 20 slides/5 minutes and you HAVE to stick to the format. The theme is not PR-related as such, but it's very interesting and a great way to boost one's presentation skills and ability to connect with an audience, which I think is a core part of PR. It also makes you pay attention to timing, story arc (h/t jillfoster ) and creativity.
If there isn't something like that in your area, why not organize it? I think that would be mucho cool.

LikeShonali ginidietrich geoffliving jillfoster Thanks, Shonali! We have a TEDx Asheville here, but I like that idea as well. Have heard of the Ignite DC conference and will check it out (hasn't it already happened for this year?)...could be an option for the next.

LikeHappy Birthday Gini!!!!!! So glad Atlanta got some snow for your birthday. And yes EricaAllison rocks so cool you chose her question. Luckily for me I am not in PR so Spin Sucks and Shonali 's blog are my PR conferences going on year round. I do want to go to SXSW but if I had the $$ for that then I would have the money for the http://wintermusicconference.com/ very important knowing one's priorities!

LikeGini. I think it is also important to go to events like DEMO (not b/c we are participating), simply because at these types of events you get to see the emerging technology that will help shape a PR team's social efforts. To be in front of the trend helps to better understand what clients will need in the future. Oh and another very happy birthday to you, too! ***Heart***
