I’m writing a book.
With Geoff Livingston.
Yes, the guy who dresses in drag.
But he only does it for charity, so he can’t be all that bad. Right?
The problem?
We can’t talk about our book.
Imagine that! Bloggers not able to write about what they’re doing.
It’s like cutting off our hands so we can’t type. Well, Geoff says he could type with his nose. So in this scenario, we’d have to cut off his nose, too.
We can tell you it’s not another social media book.
But rest assured, if you read Spin Sucks, you’ll find the book very useful. It’s geared toward you and what you do every day.
In our space, it seems like everyone is writing, or has written, a book. Or three.
But my mom very wisely reminded me that writing a book is a big deal in the real world. And I’ve wanted to write books since I was a kid (you should see my journals). But I’m also an author virgin so Geoff has very kindly agreed to show me the ropes.
Writing with Geoff is pretty exciting to me. Not only do I really like him, he’s smart, funny, and self-deprecating. I’ve been a long-time fan of his blog, where I successfully stalked him until he paid attention to me.
We’ve been working on the process since May and it’s been a great experience. Now, as we get down to the nitty gritty of writing every day, I can only hope we don’t kill one another and we make it to our book tour next summer. We’ve already agreed, that if things get tough, we’ll call a time out.
So there you have it. The book is due out next May. We’ll tour next summer. Our publisher is Pearson and our editor is Katherine Bull (who I adore).
And now I, too, have written the “I’m writing a book” blog post.

Gini and Geoff. Congrats. I cannot wait for that. But you can't even share the title of book with us? Pretty please.... :) And don't forget Montreal right after Toronto on your book tour please...I know you have some friends here.
@JohnnyRusso We're actually not allowed to or we totally would. I've been joking that it's Videos for Dummies.
This is what happens when I go away for a day and miss the official news. Congratulations Gini & Geoff! I'm sure it will be a smart and savvy read and looking forward to the release. Can I place my order for a signed copy now?
@martinwaxman Yes, you can! (and we won't tell anyone you knew before this blog post ran)
Yay Gini - congratulations! You're in for a heck of a ride! I'm nearing the end of mine and I'm SO glad! My son helped me to format it today and the edits are ALL BUT finished!
A friend sent me a quote to the effect that writing a book is like being pregnant and editing it is like being in labour. I concur! LOL
I'm looking forward to seeing what you write! All the best!
Lori
@Lori I have to say, it's been pretty painless so far. I'm bracing myself for the pain, but compared to the past year of trying to launch Spin Sucks Pro, this is CAKE.
@3hatscomm Nicely worded. @ginidietrich @geoffliving I know it's all hush-hush at the moment, but I'm excited about the news.
Congrats @ginidietrich (and @geoffliving). As long as you know that you have to include Toronto as part of your book tour when you do one so that all us fans in this part of the world can connect in person with you (again) and get you to autograph our books!!
@JodiEchakowitz LOL! @geoffliving I think we need to add Toronto and Detroit to our list.
To say I am psyched is a complete understatement but nonetheless I am. CONGRATS!! Cannot wait to buy a copy, read it, write a review about it, pass it around to everyone I know that can benefit from it and then add it to my reference collection. And I hope you are coming to Boston so we can meet finally!!!
So very happy for you!!!! Can't wait to get all the details and get my copy. I'll be there at the NY stop of your tour! :) Congrats!
1. This IS a big deal, Ms. D.
2. You picked an awesome collaborator. Geoff rocks, even in drag.
3. Can't wait to read it!
CONGRATULATIONS.
Gini, so very cool! I will save the sarcasm for another post. :) For this one, a sincere congratulations to you and @geoffliving !!!
@Adam | Customer Experience Wow. I really don't know what to do without the sarcasm.

@deleted_91832_Sean McGinnis He has NO idea. Why do you think he agreed to it?
That is great Gini and Geoff! Can't wait to read the book.
And perhaps a blog post on the process is in order so you can educate us all on the pitfalls, do's and don'ts!
Cheers,Rajka
@ExpatDoctorMom I think I'll definitely be blogging throughout the process. So far, it's been fairly painless.
That's great and will look forward to read your book...

Woohoo! Can you please come to Michigan for your book tour? If you do I'll wear a Bears jersey when you visit!
Clap! Clap! Clap! I'm standing up and applauding, Gini! I hope you can hear my cheers from Nashville. I'm really excited for you and can't wait to hear more about your book and the entire process. Writing a book has always been a dream of mine as well, so I'm intensely curious about the process. I hope you'll share that with us once you can.
Until then, I'll just be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for details. ;)
Yay! Congratulations, Gini and Geoff! I can't wait to read it and for the book tour a palooza to begin! You need a roadie? ;-)
P.S. @KatherineBull is a whole lot of wonderful. What a powerhouse team!
Awww.... Thanks, Amber, for the huge vote of confidence!
Wait, do I get to be a roadie too? I've always wanted to be a roadie.
@KatherineBull You realize being a roadie means getting us lattes and fighting off the paparazzi?
