Arment Dietrich Is Celebrating Five Years

By: Gini Dietrich | April 27, 2010 |

In true Gini fashion, I didn’t realize yesterday was the Arment Dietrich five year anniversary until, well, I wrote the blog post and realized how long I’ve been a Vistage member. Oy. Unless it’s my own birthday, that has been ingrained in my head for well more than 30 years, I tend to forget until a day or two later (Feb. 10, if you’re wondering).

Molli sent me an email and said, “We forgot our anniversary?! This deserves a blog post!” She’s right.

Five years ago. I was renting one office from an ad agency on Michigan Avenue. I was stuck in the corner with all of their client product samples. The office was as big as one McDonald’s bathroom stall. And I shared it with an intern, whose sole job was to write newsletter copy about bugs (and go to Starbucks with me every day at 2 p.m…and teach me about designer jeans and really expensive shoes). But we were on Michigan Avenue, which I thought was the bee’s knees!

I remember buying a BlackBerry at that time, thinking, “I don’t know how I’ll afford this or why I need it, but I know I can write it off!”

A lot has changed since then. Now I know why I need an iPhone (I became a lover last year, even though I thought I’d never leave the BlackBerry); Patti calls it an additional appendage. We have real offices and I have a big swanky corner office with a fireplace (that doesn’t work), exposed brick walls (that are falling into pieces on the floor), and east-facing windows (that look at a parking lot).

Of our 12 clients, more than half of them have been with us four years or more and it’s been quite a journey! Never have I been so challenged, so emotionally involved, so heartbroken at times, and so exhilarated. It, literally, is the hardest thing I have ever done – owning, running, and growing a business (and I’ve run marathons, raced my bike, kept a full-ride scholarship in check, moved a zillion times, and been an older sibling to five younger brothers and sister).

Molli has worked her way through the ranks the past four years, and clients joke she is a mini Gini, and Patti, though joining us only two years ago, has become a second part of me. Working with Sean Vitale, Chris Scott, Deb Morrin, Bob Berk, Rick Lofgren, Starr McCaffrey, Justin Brackett, and Nick Harrison have helped drive the business forward in ways I could never have imagined, even in my deepest sleep or on my longest ride. It wouldn’t be the same without all of you!

So here we are…they say if you make it to the five year mark, you’re in the clear. And, after experiencing last year, I hope “they” are right.

Global Domination…here we come!

    Congratulations, Arment Dietrich!

  • Gini, congrats on 5 years! That’s an awesome accomplishment in what you’ve done and learned! Here is to many more!

  • Congratulations Gini! I’m all for Global Domination!

  • Patti Knight

It has been a pleasure taking the ride with you for the last 2 years! I am a true believer in the power of positive thinking and if the saying is true then Global Domination indeed! Happy Anniversary (yesterday)!!!

  • Happy Anniversary Dear Friend! A big accomplishment indeed. Will look forward to raising a glass in celebration next week.

  • Congrats, Gini! I can relate to so much of your post (though I share an office with the dog, cat and one very loud husband and got my BlackBerry for free). 😉 Thanks for being such an amazing mentor, friend and inspiration. Will have some cheese dip in your honor tomorrow night!

  • Congratulations dear! Your fearlessness is commendable & it’s no surprise you’ve made it this far. Wishing you many more 5s!!!

  • Gini,

First off…congratulations on five years. It’s an accomplishment to make it through a single year, never mind FIVE!

In August I will have been in business for 13 years! I can tell you that unfortunately, it never gets easier and the second you think you’ve passed the hump and you will make it is probably the day you’ll stop growing your business. The good news is that the things that keep you up at night will seem like no big deal at 10 years in business. The thrill and reward of owning your own business and making your own way in this world certainly surpasses any of the negatives!

I know firsthand what it’s like taking a risk and starting your own business and you should be proud of all you have accomplished! Now mark this date in your calendar so you don’t forget your 10th year anniversary…your memory is the first thing to go ya know? 🙂

  • Oh, one other thing…good luck trying to take the “World Domination” badge from me…

    • Gini Dietrich

Dallas, BTW…I’m going for Global Domination. You can have world.

  • Congrats, AD. I have no doubt that the next five years will be even more successful than you can imagine. Keep the fire burning!

  • Gini, congratulations to you and the AD team for 5 years! It is obvious to me why you have made it to 5 years: commitment to your customers’ success, boundless energy, great ideas, giving more than what is asked. I wish you continued joy and blessing in the next 5 years!

  • Awwwwwwwww, well you are the easiest person in the world to work with Gini. It is very obvious when working with you why Arment Dietrich has been around five years and why it will be around another 50 more (don’t worry, you will be retired lol).

We are working on some really cool industry changing things and can’t wait to start launching this stuff with you!!!.

Especially the new blog launching very very soon!!! :o).

  • Congratulations on making to the ever-important 5!!

Ps. Perhaps there’s a blog post on how you learned the fireplace didn’t work in your future…

  • Mike Koehler

Congrats Gini. Pretty darn amazing for a Bunny.

  • Yeah! Congratulations! Sounds like you have some awesome people working with you! 🙂

  • Congats on making it! They say most businesses fail before year 5.

  • Gini,

Congratulations and thank you for sharing the journey with others. I’m glad we got to meet along the way!

  • Great stuff, Gini! Grattis! as we say in Stockholm.

Trying to grow my own business, I can apprecaite what you’ve been through. May the next 5 years be even more successful !

  • Congratulations to the entire team on hitting the 5-year milestone. Splurge on the wine-thirty beverages this week.

  • Congrats Gini!!!
What an accomplishment, and even though your view is of a parking lot, it has to feel good;)
    Here’s to the future!

  • Congrats Gini!!! As a new entrepreneur I want to thank you for being the inspiring person you are. You mentored my good friend Stephanie Krol who is now a mentor to me. Thanks for being a rockstar PR girl and a great example to female business owners everywhere!

  • Congratulations, again! This deserves a real celebration. Hmmmmm…. what would Gini like? Let me think…

  • Congratulations Gini. Five years is real milestone. Here’s to the next five and beyond.

  • Loved this post. Congratulations and best of luck!
