FBQOTW: Angels, the Super Bowl, and LaToya Jackson
| Gini Dietrich | Email | 87 Comments |
It’s Facebook question of the week time (clap, clap, clap)!
This week, we had a plethora of questions, but only one of them was coherent (Jennifer MacDonald).
So I thought it would be fun to address Jen’s question later (in a serious video) and address all of the goofy ones at once today.
Yes, we talk Super Bowl commercials, angels, LaToya Jackson, my new favorite shirt from Frank and Eileen, and even Ken Mueller gets a mention even though he forgot his question (try again next week, Ken!).
Alright. Let’s start with the questions.
Ifdy Perez (who has one of the best senses of humor I know) asks, “How about what we talked about earlier this week: When new tools are released, when should we try them out/adopt? When is it FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) or smart?”
Nancy Davis asks, “How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?”
Kris Schindler asks, “What’s your favorite Superbowl commercial, and why?”
And Danny Brown asks, “LaToya Jackson – man or woman?”
Yes, I answer them all and I’m quite pleased with my answer to Nancy’s question. As you well know, angels are pure intelligences, but are not material. So they have location in space, but they don’t take up much of it. You’ll see, based on that information, what I came up with for an answer.
Also check out my cute new shirt. I’m in love with it and their founder. I met her last month at a speaking engagement and I have a total girl crush. She rocks.
The video with all of my answers follows (if you can’t see it in your Reader, click here and it’ll magically appear).
Now it’s your turn. You get to answer all these goofy questions. And even tell me what shirt is your favorite.

@rustyspeidel As luck would have it, I know someone there. They're GREAT shirts!

@ginidietrich I especially liked the eye thing. (sorry, couldn't resist!) You might need some homemade powdered sugar to fix that!
@Egehead I don't know if homemade powdered sugar would help! My allergies are terrible. But now we have snow so it'll stop.
@ginidietrich I must find some wi-fi so I can watch this! I hear you are getting snow. Is the snow fairy there?
OMG THANK YOU!
As humans and aliens and Lions know I get pissed when Ad Spend is wasted not selling! So I came down on the little cute kid with the car (see all that money spent and you don't even know it was VW!!!!) so of course to me they wasted their cash. In fact all it showed was you can start the car from inside your home. 1 month later buick showed you can start their car from another country....Body Blow to VW! I also came down hard on Chrysler (M&M didn't prove the cars were still ugly or poor quality) and Pepsi (people assaulted by soda cans? I love Pepsi but fire the creative agency and hire @vinnywarren ! who BTW ahem has created commercials that are actually in the Superbowl Hall of Fame...Wazzzzzzzzup Vinny! 8)
Funny a guy who wears a skirt I mean kilt came down on LaToya. If LaToya could play the pipes and pound whiskey like @Danny Brown she would definitely be a he skirt or kilt.
Sorry Angels are way to big to dance on a pin. BTW New Scientist published that the number of earth sized planets in just the Milky Way is.....drum roll.......millions! So maybe Angels are Aliens but we are still to big for pin dancing.
Lastly I am curious how @KenMueller got his short term memory loss. I know how I got mine....took years...and lots of work....but very proud...wait what were we talking about?
Ok now back to your regularly scheduled program.
@HowieG No, no. Angels are not inanimate, like aliens, so an infinite number of them can dance on the head of a pin. Jeez.

Few commercials make me laugh out loud. This one from the SB a couple of years ago did:

Uh Gini, what's with the lighting on this video response from you? Are they preparing to shoot an episode of Ghost Hunters immediately after you finish? I was totally expecting an apparition to come floating out of the wall behind you.
@John_Trader1 If you make loads of money, it may not be time. LOL!

I love the funny Super Bowl ads, but hands down... this is my favorite Super Bowl ad of all time. Only aired once... during the 2005 Super Bowl... but I'll never forget it.
--Tony Gnau
@T60Productions I wonder why they only aired it once? It gave me goosebumps.
Latest blog post: Media Relations Without the News Release
@T60Productions That commercial is awesome. I think we often cite commercials that are the funniest as our best memories, and then you get a reminder that often the ones that have the most impact are ones like these.
@John_Trader1@T60Productions Tony: There are few things more uncomfortable than a bunch of guys crying at a Super Bowl party, but that was my experience in 2005. :-)
@lisagerber Thanks! I just commented back. Yes, ADBOWL lives on--this will be year 13 (with a lovely apocalypse theme). http://t.co/4SIZd0Fj
I wonder if @stevemckee is doing the Adbowl app again this year? Now that is a really fun way to watch the Superbowl. Yes, I used "fun" and "watch" and "Superbowl" in the same sentence.
@Lisa Gerber@stevemckee Yes, yes, yes! And this year we're adding a tablet app to our smartphone app. Plus we always have the website. Head to www.ADBOWL.com and register now.
@ginidietrich@Steve McKee@Lisa Gerber Radian 6 and Mullen did the Brand Bowl last year. And the winners were the ones I thought wasted their money on superbowl ads...because they didn't sell the product or brand )VW and Chrysler were two of them) Will check out ad Bowl but warning you I am a hardcore tough Alien.
@ginidietrich but do you know the for sure, that LaToya is a woman? After while, crocodile!
Well at first I thought I got the shaft, but now I see the reasoning. Since I am being put on hold I expect a top-notch answer next week! Otherwise I will have to resort to alternative resources, aka @lisagerber and @mollimegasko : )
@jennimacdonald@lisagerber@mollimegasko You can resort to them, if you like. But I have something pretty cool in mind!
@ginidietrich You know I like to give you a hard time. Can't wait to see what you've got in store!

@TheJackB Did you read Steve Jobs? They spend quite a bit of time talking about this ad campaign. It's fantastic!
@ginidietrich@TheJackB@jasonkonopinski funny I am using a Mac right now. When my windows machines break I borrow a Mac. And never once have I said...OMG why am I using windows?! Yes they break but the OS is way better in my opinion.
@ginidietrich@TheJackB@jasonkonopinski also don't forget back in 1984 all that LSD was still fresh in Steve's mind. And the ad proves it. 8)
@TheJackB Brilliance.

@ginidietrich Pretty much, this.
Confession time: I don't give a flip about football or the Super Bowl, so my memory is a bit fuzzy on some of the really good commercials. The Eminem/Motor City/Chrysler commercial definitely stood out last year.
Latest blog post: Language Fluidity, Speech Communities and Social Participation
@HowieG@jasonkonopinski Did you really say M&M?
Latest blog post: Media Relations Without the News Release
@jasonkonopinski@ginidietrich worst commercial ever. First I hate M&M. Biggest whiney bastard when I hear his songs. Second did that spot change your view that 1] their cars were not still ugly or 2] not at the bottom of JD Powers Quality? I mean the Sebring? My friend had the convertible.
So who cares about entertaining they wasted their money. Seriously are either of you even going to buy a Chrysler today? You are both way too smart for that. I would believe a Kia before that (sock monkey raves rule!)
@ginidietrich@Lisa Gerber A blasphemer AND anti-American? I'm on a roll. What else can I pile on?
Latest blog post: Language Fluidity, Speech Communities and Social Participation
@jasonkonopinski@Lisa Gerber Now it's downright blasphemous that you're aren't a Bears fan.
@Lisa Gerber@ginidietrich See, my grandparents still live in Chicago; Busia has been a Bears fan since they both immigrated from Belgium (along with my dad and aunt) in 1954. I know better to call her when the game's on. :)

@ginidietrich@jasonkonopinski Jason, I guess I'm anti-american too. So I'm with you. Before I even moved to Chicago, I would wake up on Superbowl morning not even knowing who's playing. Of course, given my current environment, that is no longer the case.

@ginidietrich Heh. Rugby and baseball are the two sports that I really get excited about.
