There is a reason the new Job Stress Report from CareerCast listed “PR executive” as one of the most stressful careers.
The proliferation of social media as a news-consumption forum, the constant turmoil in White House communications, fake news and #alternativefacts, and commoditizing of our industry—and the resulting demands and expectations (I want one million Facebook fans!)—have turned our livelihoods into bona fide pressure cookers.
Because it's not possible to attend to every demand, expectation, or whim and stay the course.
This is not good. Your loneliness and inability to move forward because of all of the firefighting creates low confidence, lack of passion, and even burnout.
Eventually something has to give.
(Usually, it's your sanity!)
I'm Gini Dietrich, the CEO of Arment Dietrich, a digital marketing communications firm based in Chicago, and founder and author of Spin Sucks. I also am the co-host of Inside PR and co-author of Marketing in the Round.
In the past two years, we’ve been working one-on-one with Spin Sucks students to better understand the struggles each of you has and the solutions you’ve tried.
We’ve learned seven things:
All of this is significant because it’s what led CareerCast to call our jobs stressful.
As we heard these seven things over and over from current Spin Sucks students, we realized there is an opportunity here. An opportunity to solve all of those issues for the PR industry, while having fun.
Last fall, I was sitting on my front porch, drinking wine and talking about it with a friend who was visiting from Denver. The conversation had evolved to Slack and how much I loved it as a community builder, particularly for a community as engaged as Spin Sucks. He said, “Why wouldn’t you build a community that solves all of these issues, and uses Slack to do it?”
Mic. Drop.
My brain went into overdrive. What if we could help the PR industry better understand—and adapt new trends? What if we could provide templates to provide time efficiencies? What if we could provide easy-to-understand lessons on how to implement the PESO model? What if we could help people integrate the art and the science of what we do? What if we could provide access to industry experts on hot topics?
What would we call that?
The PR Dream Team!
The vision of Spin Sucks is to change the perception people have of the PR industry. No easy feat with everything we face in the world today—fake news, #alternativefacts, a disruptive White House communications department, spinners, liars, and more. To do that, we have to work together.
We have to create industry-wide metrics, abolish bad tactics, and support one another. No industry organization has done this...until now.
The PR Dream Team gives you access to all of the strategies, tricks, secrets, metrics, templates, and ideas to implement a measurable and successful PESO model program—the new standard in communications.
With the PR Dream Team, you have access to premium and exclusive content, monthly training, discounts on events, books, and more, and daily access to the Spin Sucks team.
You also have a team of business professionals who are smart, savvy, and fun. They will encourage you, challenge you, answer questions, share ideas, solve problems, brainstorm, share funny videos, network, and even find you a date (if you're in the market for one).
It's the only place you can master modern communications.
The PR Dream Team is here to help you:
The PR Dream Team is advanced communications—content marketing, social media advertising, email marketing, contributed content, media relations, attribution, measurement, and more. You have access to the secret sauce that isn’t available to anyone else.
Joining the PR Dream Team is akin to working for one of the largest companies in the world that has a team of hundreds of marketers who have very specific expertise...the kind of expertise that gives you the experience you need to excel in your career and makes you look like a hero.
The PR Dream Team is for those who are forward-thinking, motivated to make change, not risk-adverse, want to learn and learn some more, are willing to give back to fellow community members (and have five or 10 minutes every week to do so), understand the value of mentors, want to share the knowledge they do have, but don’t know it all, and aren’t afraid to ask questions.
The PR Dream Team members consist of agency owners, solopreneurs, corporate communicators, industry experts, and nonprofit advocates. They excel in their careers and are willing to invest in themselves to further their skills and knowledge. They are time-crunched, like everyone else, but are smart enough to ask for help. The PR Dream Team provides the help they need to make it look like they have clones.
The PR Dream Team is not for those who don’t like a challenge, don’t like change, won’t take risk, aren’t willing to work hard, can’t make time to answer questions, don’t want to evolve their skills, want to do things the same as always, or don’t have time to help others in the industry right now.
