Sorry I'm late to the party here, but just saw this post and had to chime in. I'm no Public Relations guru or marketing whiz. I have barely a thimble’s worth of experience, and each day I learn that I knew very little the day before. Within my industry (Green building), I've overheard one or a hundred conversations that turn my stomach. Companies promising more than they can deliver based upon flimsy pitches, ideas, and products. In such scenarios, I have hardly a leg to stand on in order to counter their promises based upon my age, but I do file the conversation away as to better prepare me in the future for how to avoid companies that lack authenticity and sound advice, how to spot a scammer, and how to genuinely self myself and company to either a prospective client or simply an interested listener.
It's a shame that there are companies and individuals that prey on uneducated or naive consumers in order to make a quick buck. Thankfully for us, the scamsters will eventually be revealed, and they will learn that the only way to true success is through ethical behavior and honestly selling valuable products and services. Too bad innocent consumers have to be left victimized in their wake.
Great piece Davina. Love to see a fellow Hotlantan hanging out here on Gini's playground.
@ginidietrich I know. It's typically how it goes. I get the final word. Oh & PS, don't think for one second that I'm not making a dramatic, for the WWF highlight films comeback because I am. I hear the faint sound of "Gonna Fly Now" from Rocky playing in the background.

Ehemmm... sorry. I had to clear my throat. I think you meant to say "people in or from two cities: Atlanta and Toronto," as to include those that might currently reside elsewhere. You know, a little further east, say Charleston, SC.
Davina, for too long I've seen your posts RT'ed on my stream but failed to venture over. Glad I finally connected. Gini has that Midas touch I guess. (Yikes, should I have just stroked her ego so openly like that?!!)
@3HatsComm @JamesDBurrell2 It's because I love people in two cities: Atlanta and Toronto.
@JamesDBurrell2 I'm always stunned when I hear an SMB tell my that websites are too expensive; when I tell them they cost as little as $5/month to host, they're twice as stunned. No one's ever told them there may be other ways, better ways. I still get taken by the pretty pitch, clever marketing when I should know better... working on it. And funny, I've met just as many Atlanta folks out here on Gini's blog as anywhere else. ;-)
