#FollowFriday: For Bloggers, By Bloggers

By: Gini Dietrich | February 25, 2011 |

Well, this isn’t a #FollowFriday for a particular person; rather a site that is written for bloggers by bloggers.

The brain child of Danny Brown and contributed to by Joey Strawn, Frank Dicksinson, Aaron Lee, and Judy Dunn, For Bloggers, By Bloggers is chock full of tips for everyone interested in blogging to the most sophisticated blogger.

Broken into eight different areas – design, tips, topics, social bookmarking, social networking, theme review, videos, and WordPress – you can get information on just about everything you need. I say just about everything because I’d love to see a robust section on organic search, but that’s because it’s something I need to do more efficiently, not because I think it’s a gaping hole. Come on, guys! Don’t you know this is all about me?!

One thing I love that they’ve recently added is weekly topic ideas for free. In some places, you’d have to pay for those ideas, but For Bloggers, By Bloggers gives them to you with a smile and a “have at it” attitude.

Want to start a blog?

Don’t know what to write about or how often you should write?

Don’t like to write, but really would like to better understand vlogging?

Keep hearing about using social bookmarks, but have no idea what they are or how to use them?

Already have a blog, but don’t get any comments on it?

Reached exhaustion and need a pep talk?

Get my drift? It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out or if you have a blog with a robust community. This #FollowFriday is for you. Because, well, it’s written by people who do this every day and are able to share their lessons, mistakes, and successes.

Check out Danny, Joey, Frank, Aaron, and Judy…and their site that is maintained with you in mind.

  • I think For Bloggers, By Bloggers may have been one of the first 5 blogs I discovered in the infancy of my adventure, and I’m happy to say that their (Danny, Joey, Judy & Aaron) advice has played an influential role in the development of Life as an Experiment in both content and design. On their own merits, I know all these folks are deserving of this prestigious honor (Gini’s #FF) but as a collective, they are absolutely a gem for all budding writers and bloggers.

Happy Friday my dearest Aunt Gini. Hope you make it hope in time for today’s Oprah. I heard it’s going to be a very unique & riveting show today. She’s going to talk about a book, share a deeply emotional story, and then give away somthing to the audience for free. I can’t wait.

    All the best – JB

  • Well snap my toy head on and call me Buzz Lightyear – thanks a TON for the kind write up, miss, really appreciate it and glad you’ve been enjoying it. I’m really happy with the team over there and I think the great thing about the topics they write is that they’re not always ones you’d expect to find on a resource site, Which is nice. πŸ™‚

Cheers again, and I’ll see what I can do about your organic search needs. πŸ˜‰

  • @JamesDBurrell2 Hey there Jamey,

Been a blast getting to know you over there sir, and so glad to hear that we’ve been able to help you as well, since that’s all we can ask for at the end of the day. πŸ™‚

Cheers, and have a great weekend!

  • wagnerwrites

Hadn’t heard about this – thanks for pointing it out.

  • @dannybrown @JamesDBurrell2 Ditto to what Danny said. James, you rock!

  • Well holy canoles! Thanks Gini for the very kind words. It makes me smiale whenever I show up somewhere on your radar and this definitely was a good end to a kind of crappy week. Thanks for the support and can’t wait to make a trip up to Chicago so you can show me around. : )

  • @joey_strawn Just don’t ask her to guide you via Skype, Joey… πŸ˜‰

  • great like those guys don’t have big enough egos…

  • ha! that’s a funny comic. Actually, my usual goal for a blog is to develop a tribe. Whether it’s big or small, it’s ok. As long as there is a tribe of engaged participants. (per Seth Godin’s book “Tribes”)

  • @faybiz Always room for bigger heads. πŸ˜‰

  • @mattmaldre Great goals, Matt – I think most bloggers would cite that as their aim. Sure, monetization, speaking gigs, client work and more are also goals. But you won’t get any of these if you don’t have folks sharing your stuff to start with. So a great tribe/community is key.

  • JudyDunn

    Love your drawing. : )

Thanks for spreading the word about For Bloggers, By Bloggers. It’s a huge honor to be contributing to FBBB. What I really sense with this site is that we are here to help people. And Danny so models this all the time, that how could we not?

Have enjoyed getting to know you a little better on Twitter!

  • JudyDunn

@faybiz Wow. I think that’s the first time anyone told me I have a big ego. I guess there’s always a first time. : )

  • @JudyDunn I’m messing with danny and joey… what you all are doing couldn’t be further from ego driven

  • @faybiz My ego is just on the brink of too big. There’s always room for a boost. : )

  • @JudyDunn I think it was Gini’s dog that drew it…

  • JudyDunn

@faybiz Therein lies the problem. A writer who lives on sarcasm and self-deprecating wit but can’t recognize it in a blog comment. : )

  • Well I for one – couldn’t agree more with you on this choice of #FF Gini :). I’m an avid reader of For Bloggers, By Bloggers and I think the contributors just rock!

There’s always some highly entertaining and helpful blog posts on there – but then again – with writers like Joey, Judy, Aaron, Frank and Danny – I’d expect nothing less!

And Kudos on the little image my dear Aunt ;).

  • I ran into that blog once, loved an article and put it in one of my round ups. I forgot to bookmark it and had the luck of Ingrid Griddy recommending it to me. So I came back and never left. Lol.

It is probably one of my favorite blogs at the moment. But it is so easy to find great blogs with Ingrid on your team.

Great recommendation Gini and assuming some of the comments here are accurate, I must say your dog draws great πŸ™‚ Wish my puppy could do that!

  • @Brankica Gini’s dog is awesome. Maybe he should teahc Gini how to use Skype… πŸ˜‰

Thanks for the praise, Brankica, and really glad you’re part of the community over there! πŸ™‚

  • @Griddy The check is in the mail, miss. πŸ˜‰

  • @dannybrown Ummm…do yo mind sending it via FedEX please – the weekend is already here LOL ;)!

  • TheFriendlyBlogger

@Griddy @dannybrown Western Union is much faster!!! Press for speed Ingrid!! πŸ™‚

  • @TheFriendlyBlogger @dannybrown I was gonna’ suggest WU but the charges to Beirut are enough to make him gasp. I was feeling kind -but now – come to think of it – FedEX international charges are just as much fun lol ;).

  • HowieSPM

@Griddy @TheFriendlyBlogger @dannybrown Ingrid is this where you get all your inspiration when you blog about bloggers who blog about blogging?

  • HowieSPM

Is there going to be a section about non-bloggers by non-bloggers?

  • @HowieSPM I think that’s the Huffington Post? πŸ˜‰

  • @HowieSPM @TheFriendlyBlogger @dannybrown You got me Howie – I usually go to For Bloggers, By Bloggers or to Gini’s and Danny’s site and copy exactly what they wrote and just change the author’s name hahaha – You see – no need for inspiration – it’s a simple matter of plagiarism and copy/pasting skills πŸ˜‰

  • @dannybrown @HowieSPM Muwahahahaaa (use joker/scary like tone when saying this out loud please lol)

  • ginidietrich

If I’d known writing this would have brought out all the crazies (except @JudyDunn ), I would have chosen a different #FF!

  • ginidietrich

@HowieSPM Who would we get to write that?!

  • ginidietrich

@Brankica I guess Griddy hasn’t taught you, yet, that @dannybrown lies?

  • ginidietrich

    @Griddy LOL!!

  • ginidietrich

@dannybrown @JudyDunn Jack Bauer IS quite talented!

  • ginidietrich

@dannybrown @mattmaldre So, wait. You don’t think becoming famous is a goal?

  • ginidietrich

@faybiz No shit. I should have really thought this through better this morning.

  • ginidietrich

@dannybrown I think doing a Skype call while dragging my suitcase up 66 stairs to the office, with a purse on my shoulder and a latte in my other hand is pretty darn good! I mean, I AM coming to visit you, after all.

  • ginidietrich

@joey_strawn Holy canoles?! LOL!! But…what is a smiale?

  • ginidietrich

@wagnerwrites You’re very welcome! Minus the crazy authors who have commented here today, you’ll get some great actionable tips from the blog.

  • ginidietrich

@dannybrown Well, at least you read the blog post.

  • ginidietrich

@JamesDBurrell2 You must have Spidey sense to know what Oprah is going to discuss today! WOW!

  • @ginidietrich @JudyDunn Oh thank goodness, for a moment there I thought you were referring to me as well Muahahahah πŸ˜‰

  • @ginidietrich @HowieSPM Aren’t you supposed to be on a plane to Siberia?

  • @ginidietrich It’s the way someone spells “smile” when they’re typing too fast. : )

  • JudyDunn

I am totally offended that I don’t get to be part of the ‘crazies.’ Don’t you remember the old Apple ads? (“Here’s to the ‘crazies’ “) : )

  • @ginidietrich @Brankica @dannybrown Wait…who’s Danny Brown again? (I’m stealing Howie’s little trick thing here – I told you – PLIAGARISM all the way! lol)

  • Thanks Gini. I went to visit For B by B and I was shocked.
For one he gives away FREE blog topics, I mean that is just plain cruel when you know some people out there are trying to put food on the table by selling them. I believe the going rate is 20c per topic.
Second, there I dont see a weekly Post listing all the posts people wrote with the blog topics that could have been sold.
You are right Gini, I went there, found terrific value for free. It is crazy. πŸ˜‰

  • @joey_strawn @dannybrown The pleasure is all mine gentlemen. Love how your energy and love for what you does shines through in your writing. It’s fun to take part in your conversations, and it gives an aspiring blogger confidence that taking a serious topic and sprinkling it with sarcasm and wit is not only entertaining but a successful way to connect with people.

@ginidietrich I don’t need a mask Gini. No spidey sense, just a plain clothes guy that brings swagger, charm and when the situation calls for it, the latest run down on Oprah or The Bachelor… Google is a man’s best friend — apologies to my pups for that one.

  • ginidietrich

@JudyDunn LOL! Alright. Fine. You’re crazy, too.

  • ginidietrich

@Griddy Uh…you are an original crazy!

  • ginidietrich

    @johnfalchetto LOL!! Crazy, huh?! FREE!

  • ginidietrich

@Griddy I don’t go to Siberia until tonight.

  • @ginidietrich @Griddy I prefer the term coocoo, but mostly because I just watched a Coco Puffs commercial. I need to get out of this place before I forever become sucked into all of these conversations…

  • @ginidietrich [Clears throat] [Clears throat again]

  • @JamesDBurrell2 @dannybrown @ginidietrich : )

  • ginidietrich

@joey_strawn Oh Joey. YOU are definitely crazy!

  • ginidietrich

@JamesDBurrell2 Great. Now that’s stuck in my head.

  • ginidietrich

    @joey_strawn Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • @ginidietrich Whew. I was starting to get nervous.

  • HowieSPM

@ginidietrich @Griddy did you see Ingrid’s announcement on her blog about her launching project Jack Bauer next week! I so suspected cut and paste but wasn’t quite sure because she claimed she is already at version 3.0

  • @Griddy @ginidietrich @DannyBrown Not sure if we are talking about the same Danny. The one I am referring to never lies πŸ˜›

By the way, what are the chances of borrowing your dog, Gini, to teach mine only to use Skype and not type all over my posts (yes, she actually does that, so typos are never mine).

  • @ginidietrich @Griddy No way πŸ™‚

  • @ginidietrich I may be coocoo for coco puffs, but I can’t get enough of them there Frosted Flakes, They’re Great… Tony the Tiger was a marketing genuis.

  • AskAaronLee

Woot! thanks for sharing FBBB Gini!! So happy to be part of it and be part of an awesome team! Will we see you there anytime soon? *winks*

  • @johnfalchetto I hear it’s run by a Scotsman, which make the free thing even more confusing. They’re tighter than the Irish! πŸ˜‰

  • @Brankica @Griddy @ginidietrich I have my moments. Usually when complimenting Gini… πŸ˜‰

  • FrankDickinson

yowsa – I’m the “sin” ner of the group (2nd paragraph, first sentence :)~

FBBB is a cool place – thanks for featuring us Gini!!

  • ginidietrich

@FrankDickinson LMAO!! I’m totally keeping the spelling of your name that way. HAHAHAHA!!

  • ginidietrich

I love that there are nearly 70 comments on this…and it’s all of the BBFB team.

  • @ginidietrich Pish posh.

  • FrankDickinson

    @ginidietrich LOL – I thought you’d enjoy that!

  • ginidietrich

@DannyBrown Ah dang! I didn’t get a “pish posh” out of you last weekend! Dammit.

  • ginidietrich

@FrankDickinson It’s kind of fun to say out loud – Dick Sin Son.

  • ginidietrich

@AskAaronLee Uh…there is no room for the masterful Gini Dietrich at FBBB!
