#FollowFriday: Gini D

#FollowFriday: Gini DWell friends, our fearless leader Gini has returned from Paris.

She ate a lot of fabulous food, did a lot of walking and sight seeing, and spent a lot of time in cafes – all while managing to avoid causing a national incident of some sort.

Word on the street was she had the U.S. Embassy’s number on speed dial, just in case.

In another shocking turn of events, Starbucks lover Mr. D copped to being ‘coffee’ed out’ by Paris.

I naturally had to ask Gini if she’s ‘wine’ed out’.

Always the trouper, she insisted she’s not – which means she didn’t drink enough in my humble opinion. All kidding aside, starting Monday Gini’s back, refreshed and speaking french.

She’ll be blogging up a storm and sharing her weekly #FollowFriday surprises with you all, so today for our last #FollowFriday guest post, we have something extra super special in store for you.

Chuck Kent, Creative on Call, Inc.’s president and creative director – and one seriously talented guy – graciously agreed to take the helm. Holy cow, did he knock it out of the park!

So, without further ado, we present our very first video #FollowFriday.

Watch closely, and see if you’re featured.

Oh Gini D from Creative on Call, Inc. on Vimeo.

Really had fun doing this... now on to the live version, with all the Spin Suckers singing along!

If there is ever a Breakfast Sausage that needs a name and a Jingle it will be Gini D and @creativeoncall you will make freaking bank on the commercials!

This was awesome. You trumped me and you aren't even the real Donald. I am way impressed. How am I going to top this? Going to have to hire one of those planes that flies over the Lake Michigan Beaches with the big banners announcing at Rick's Dance Club 2 for 1 shooters all Friday but free for Gini D or something.

Talk about setting the bar high! ;) @creativeoncall thanks for adding some sunshine to an otherwise gloomy day.

Whew, I'm glad I barely made it in under the wire; the bar has been raised just a little too high for me to make the cut now....

Great job Chuck.

@creativeoncall how long did it take for you to come up with these fine lyrics? I'm going to guess not too long (hence your Twitter handle)....

This made my day, and i needed it with my mind focused on Boston. Thank you. @creativeoncall you should get your own day of the week, #WiseWednesday?! Just saying. : )

I loved this! The only thing that would have made it a NOTCH more effective would have been the mention of writing instruments, like ... big green felt tip ones ... but maybe there will be a sequel. :-)

Flipping creative. Well done @creativeoncall -- you shot and scored on this one. I just can't see any way GD can't feature you now. It's a lock!

All I can say is, bravo on spelling "trouper" correctly. You are in the elite 3% of the population that seems to know that. Thank you.

Ahh I love this so much Chuck!!! I've followed your social songs for a while now, and great to finally hear one for our intrepid leader, Roboboss! Errr...I mean Gini D!

@EdenSpodek @creativeoncall I don't know if the bar is set that high, but I'd love to meet all the local (Chicago area) Spin Suckers in a bar to sing / record it live some time. Now THAT would be fun.

@bdorman264 Thanks.  Of course, there are any number of other art forms for you to use... interpretive dance perhaps?  Rumor has it Gini likes dance

@Matt_Cerms @creativeoncall Ah, now you come to the crux of why I always try to work on a flat fee basis – sometimes the good ideas come quickly, but they're still good, valuable ideas. Let's just say in this case it was harder, and more time consuming, to record and edit (even simply) this piece than it was to write the song.  it also pays to have good inspiration, which Gini, Lindsay and all of the "Spin Suckers" are so good at generating.  That's actually less of a schmooze than it is a comment on the nature of community.

To that point, take a listen to the latest Social Pros Podcast with Jay Baer interviewing Mitch Joel... it rambles (constructively), and about 2/3 of the way through touches on how neither of them really work the comment section of their blogs anymore because it's just too darn time consuming... and yet they give props to Gini and Mark Schaefer as two exemplars of what you can build in terms of community if you're really willing to invest in it.  You get people to not just comment  but to invest themselves.. even to take a day out to cook up a crazy song and put it on video.  Now THAT's community.  You don't manage it so much as inspire it (and not in the sappy, bore-me-with-a-bunch-of-quotes way).

Maybe if we all record a sing-along version in a Google+ Hangout she'll featured the lot of us!

@JoeCardillo Thanks... I have to admit, music has always been one of my favorite forms of marketing creativity... especially when there's a chance to make it fun.  I am also infamous for singing in meetings (whether anybody wants me to or not).

@sydcon_mktg I dunno... my Fridays are kinda busy.  But if Gini insists on featuring me next Friday, well, I'll try to make time.  Just gotta remember to order her that pair of Jimmy Choos to seal the deal...

@RebeccaTodd Thanks Rebecca! I'm having a good bit of fun with #SocialSong Saturday... for those who don't know, it's my weekly "Twitter Love Song" to those tweeting the really good stuff.  Gini was actually my impetus for stretching a bit and doing it in the first place... just her ability to be herself on video, and do it in a production style I've come to refer to as "Social Media Casual"

@creativeoncall Yeah, after I saw Ken Mueller's interpretive dance gig with a wig on, that kind of set the bar too high for me in that arena as well.

@creativeoncall @Matt_Cerms Love it. I must say, we are pretty luck to have Spin Sucks as part of our morning routine. I know "you can only suck up so much in the comments section" -- but this community is what social networking is all about: learning, laughing, and inspiring. And I'll take a listen to the Social Pros podcast! Thanks, Chuck!

@Matt_Cerms @JoeCardillo @creativeoncall Hey, we could always crowd source a lyric.  I actually hate crowd sourcing (it's too often a crutch for lack of creativity, or just plain cheapness), but for Spin Suckers, I'll make an exception.

@JoeCardillo @creativeoncall @Matt_Cerms That's funny... I was thinking of that as one of the original song options, but I couldn't get the tune to "Ghost Busters" out of my head for it, so I moved on... Doesn't mean it can't/shouldn't be done, though...
