Gin and Topics: Man Named T-Rex and Dancing Harvard Boys

By: Gini Dietrich | May 11, 2012 |

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks!

I keynoted at Social Slam, took Mr. D to Vegas for his birthday, and co-keynoted (with Jay Baer) at Counselors Academy. And, on top of all of that, Marketing in the Round came out and, those of you who pre-ordered it began receiving it this week and sent in pictures (which we’ve posted on Pinterest).

But I slept for eight hours last night so I’m beginning to feel myself again. Just in time for the big Chicago book launch party on Monday night (are you coming??).

It’s supposed to be a glorious weekend in the Windy City so I’m going to go put air in my bike’s tires and fill my water bottles.

And you? You’re going to check out Gin and Topics.

5. Nebraska Name Changes His Name to Tyrannosauraus Rex. I saw this headline and had to click through to see if it was true. Turns out, it is. The guy’s given name is Tyler, but he thinks T-Rex is “cooler.” So there you have it.

4. Most Absurd Things Seen at Gym. My dear friend Rusty Speidel knows what makes me laugh…and this is definitely one of those things. Check out the woman sitting on the treadmill on a chair. Perfectly priceless!

3. Harvard Baseball Does Call Me Maybe Cover. Holy. Crap. I laughed so hard at this. Stick with it. It’s not the same moves all the way through. Thanks for this, Deb Dobson. You made my day!

2. Dear Tom Peters. I know this isn’t my typical Gin and Topics post. And everyone knows I have a huge brain crush on Mitch Joel (aka my social media husband). So I want you to read this post he wrote about a week ago. It’s his second in a serious of “love” letters to people he admires. It’s an idea all of us can shamelessly steal.

1. If You Do Your Timesheet, We’ll Give You a Beer. For those of you in a professional services business, you know what a pain it is to enter your time. When I spent my time at Fleishman-Hillard, time entry was always a battle. This is a great video JWT and Casa put together to incentivize employees to fill out their timesheets. Freaking brilliant!

Have a great weekend everyone. And happy birthday, Lisa Gerber!

  • I am trying to think how we can apply this beer cooler to us – we’d need a virtually distributed wine refrigerator. Gears are ticking….
And now I’m looking for the line item on the timesheet for watching all these hilarious Gin and Topics videos.

    • ginidietrich

@Lisa Gerber You put it under Spin Sucks. Duh.

  • JenKaneCo

    Those baseball boys are adorable.

    • ginidietrich

@JenKaneCo Wasn’t that funny?? I want to know how a bunch of 20 year old guys decide this is going to be hilarious. And how they did it without a single smile.

      • @ginidietrich @JenKaneCo oh I cam answer that question: A loooong road trip!

  • debdobson62

I’m so glad I made your day Gini with the Harvard baseball team.  I love it so much I had to watch it again!!  Hope you enjoy a great weekend of cycling my friend.

    • ginidietrich

@debdobson62 You know what rocks about riding into 31 mph winds?? Coming home!!

      • debdobson62

Oh man, riding into 31 mph winds is tough…….

        • ginidietrich

@debdobson62 It kind of sucked. But it was fun coming home!

  • The baseball vid reminds me of the road trips we used to take w/ my youngest son’s traveling ball team; they would come up with the wackiest stuff. One of the worst was a kid who’s pitching in your town now; Christoper Sale (but it’s the other Chicago team). We still talk about all the ‘characters’ good times indeed.

    • ginidietrich

@bdorman264 That’s so funny! It would be really funny to get some Sale stories for the news here.

      •  @ginidietrich He was at a high school football game with his dad once and talked the cop who was patrolling the game to tase him…..twice……Nobody was surprised when we heard about it, and the cop got in trouble. Of course, his dad was a very free spirit too back in the day too.

I hate that these are so awesome. You could sping Gin and Topics into its own business for Christ Sakes. lol Your pension for finding videos and/or having them sent to you is amazing. lol I’m 1/2 jealous 1/2 indulged and 1/2 (extra) belly laughing to a cold beverage. It is Friday after all.

    • ginidietrich

@ryancox The cold beverage looks like it’s iced coffee. What are you drinking?

      • ryancox

@ginidietrich Kessler (whiskey) and diet. I make it, even with my first cup, at about a five to one mix. It bites…hard. #longweek

        • ginidietrich

@ryancox Ahhhh. In a coffee mug. That’s hilarious!

  • I hate time sheets, hate…hate…hate…hate…time sheets. Free beer isn’t enough. If I had my way time sheets would be destroyed and their names erased from memory.
Ok, end of rant. That Call Me Maybe song is new to me, but I get the feeling that it is big in the Greek System, makes my ZBT antenna go off.
    Love the gym stuff…

    • ryancox

@TheJackB Seriously. That gym stuff was hilarious!

    • ginidietrich

@TheJackB So you’re the person who was a cost because you wouldn’t do time sheets. I see.
