Gin and Topics: No Toilet Paper, Tech Terms, and Puppies

By: Gini Dietrich | February 3, 2012 |

It’s a sad, sad day in Chicago. One year ago, we had so much snow the city shut down.

It’s in the upper 40s.

Mother Nature is clearly confused. As much as I love snow, I do not want it in June. Do you hear me, Mother Nature? No snow in June!

As a side note, Anne Weiskopf took the photo I use in every other Gin and Topics. I saw her the other night and guess what she ordered to drink?

That’s right! A Hendricks. It made me giggle.

And, on that note, I present you this week’s Gin and Topics.

5. Puppies Learning to Walk. Thanks to Jenn Whinnem, you get to see puppies learning how to walk. It might be one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. Plus their little barks? OMG.

4. The Toilet Paper Emergency. We’ve all been there. No toilet paper. This man uses Twitter to have some brought to him while he’s stuck in a public bathroom. #freakingbrilliant I wonder if Dan Perez will use this technique next time he’s out? Thanks to Deb Dobson for forwarding it along. The story. Not the tweet.

3. The Conjuror 1899. I don’t know what to say to this other than it’s incredible. I mean, INCREDIBLE. Claudia Anderson sent it to me and she said, “This video is circa 1899 by George Melies the magician/film maker/producer who is honored in the recent movie Hugo.  George Melies is thought to be the father of cinematography special effects and you can see how he used film to create the illusion of magic.” It’s incredible.

2. Nine Tech Terms You Need to Know Before Starting a Business. Heck, if you’re in business you need to know these terms. Do yourself a favor and educate yourself on things of the web. I even recommend learning basic programming so you can adjust things in your content management system.

1. Hold On for Safety. All I have to say about this is you’re welcome.

P.S. Seven more shopping days until my birthday!

P.P.S. See how I did that? Three of the five Gin and Topics were produced by YOU. That’s right! Filled with stuff from each of you. Let’s keep it up! And…thank you!

    • @Hajra LOVED the puppies (cuz how can you NOT??) but, I’m just curious about the “small brown objects” that seem to get panned over in the video in the hallway? What exactly are we looking at on this carpeting that is a playground to two puppies??? #JustSayin’

  5. KenMueller says:

I almost shared that picture at #1 with you the other day. Just screamed your name.

  6. Every film lover should be routing for Hugo to win – even though there’s an long and nasty rant about how that film was marketed waiting to come out.

Also, feel free to watch this:

Please… don’t answer that… so hypothetical, I’m just saying, turn your body slightly to the right and hold the pole with your hands.

  9. Lisa Gerber says:

LMAO, I canNOT believe you think the butt cheeks is funny. Sigh.

on the other hand, those puppies. Yummy. so cute.

  10. I love it when I’m mentioned in somebody’s blog when it has to do with toilet tissue. Love it. PS – you could have at least included a picture…

    • ginidietrich says:

      @danperezfilms I wasn’t sure if you’d appreciate my including a picture. But now that I know it’s fair game…

OMG! I did not expect that!!! I was just reading along, scrolling down, and on the last photo the bottom of my screen was at her waist/elbow. All I could see was her torso and your caption and thought “HUH? Welcome for what?”.

Then I scrolled further. Holy cow! I was laughing so hard along with coughing and my nose running – over that girl in the red dress.

    THANK YOU! So freaking funny!

    • ginidietrich says:

@CristerDelaCruz LOL!!! So funny. I saw that on Google+ this morning and immediately downloaded it. My mom is going to use my middle name when she sees it.

      • @ginidietrich @CristerDelaCruz LOL…oh Mom’s actually LOVE having to say (in a stern voice) the “child’s” full name….I mean, let’s face it….it’s the only time we ever get to say this elusive name that we pick for our child….*poor, under appreciated middle name*….

        Okay…I’m done here…

  19. EricaAllison says:

LOVE this one. I have to say, when I was home with my sick little one yesterday I tuned in to Ellen and caught #1. Her quip about it: “Remember how your mom always says ‘don’t touch that, you don’t know where it’s been’ …well, now you know.” Priceless.

  20. HowieSPM says:

That is totally how I hold on in the subway. Especially on International No Pants Subway Ride Day.

  21. NancyCawleyJean says:

I always enjoy Gin and Topics. But today’s parting words/pic? You’ve left me speechless! Enjoy the weekend and the countdown to your b’day! 🙂

    • ginidietrich says:

@NancyCawleyJean I saw that on Google+ and immediately downloaded it. So. Freaking. Funny. Mr D. said, “Come on, now! This poor woman has no idea her photo is being passed around.” Um, dude. If you hold on to a bar with your BUTT CHEEKS, you are asking for it!

  22. debdobson says:

@ginidietrich Hey my friend, I think your Chicago snow got lost & landed in Denver.

  23. mikefjean says:

@ginidietrich ahaha just what I needed on a Saturday morning. Gino always brings it. Number 1..kill me. Number 5.. Kill me twice!

  24. Thanks @ginidietrich for sharing the George Melies video…I appreciate your thinking it was worthy 😉 That said, it was SO (rightfully) trumped by adorable puppies and a woman apparently doing a modified Kegel exercise!! And @EricaAllison I completely agree…ewwww…makes you want to not touch ANYTHING!!!

  25. John_Trader1 says:

First the Ellen sloth video and now the puppies, that’s 2 “cute” videos featuring adorable animals in one week. Nice. We all could use a little more cuteness in our lives. I expect a hedgehog video link next week to keep the ball rolling.

    Have a great weekend!

  26. HeidiMassey says:

Oh so much to say about all of this. First, snow-yuck. But you already know how I feel. Second, puppies, Animal Planet. Watch “Too Cute.” Nothing but adorable, squeaking baby animals. Third, I believe the woman on the train was in that same electronics store you referred to in number 4, and found her own solution.

    Happy Saturday!

  27. ginidietrich says:

@HeidiEKMassey You liked the picture on the subway, didn’t you?

  28. […] Gini Dietrich… to forget Cannes and get her, Mr. D, Bonnie, and Saul on the next flight out. Right […]

  29. ginidietrich says:

    @stefaniehawkes Ha!

  30. Who is women in Hold On for Safety.?  you Gini? 😀
