I think winter arrived in Chicago overnight. When I went to bed last night, it was in the upper 60s. When I woke up this morning, it was so cold, Jack Bauer was snuggled up as close as he could get to me, under the blankets!
Neither one of us wanted to get out bed.
Guess that means it’s time to get out the flannel sheets!
It’s also marathon weekend in Chicago so, if you’re running it, good luck! It’ll be perfect running weather. I’m happy to be watching instead of running. I’ll be cheering you on, though!
If you’d rather stay indoors, you have five videos to watch. I present this week’s Gin and Topics.
5. Meet the Hexaflexagon. Lindsay Bell and I were totally geeking out about this early one morning this week. You will too – mind blown!
4. I’m Yours. Marianne Griebler sent this to me and we both fell in love with this little boy. I particularly love when his nose itches and he has to scratch it, but doesn’t miss a beat on his ukelele.
3. Skateboarder Hits Deer. First of all, it kind of freaks me out these guys are on skateboards going 40 mph. I know it shouldn’t because I’ve ridden 62 mph on my bicycle. But, for some reason, this feels less safe. Especially when one of them hits a deer! Thanks to Mr. D for the find.
2. Let My People Vote. OK. I wasn’t going to run this one because of the language (wow!), but it’s pretty freaking awesome. Sarah Silverman takes on the states trying to pass a law that you have to have a state-issued ID in order to vote. The best part is at the end when she has her Nana on and she yells at her for swearing. Thanks to Rebecca Todd for sharing! And, if the language offends you (sorry, mom, I gave in to peer pressure), don’t watch it.
1. Gangnam Style McMaster Style. My dear friend Martin Waxman sent this to me and, I have to admit, I wasn’t very excited about another Gangnam Style meme. But this is awesome. It’s the basketball team from McMaster University in Canada. I don’t want to ruin it for you so let’s just say there is a nutty professor who rocks and a shower scene worth watching. You don’t have to take my word for it, though. When I first watched it on Thursday, it had 40,000 views. It’s closing in on 200,000 now.
Have a great weekend…and good luck to the marathoners!

Absolutely love this! Especially the basketball team from McMaster University! The little ukelele player is absolutely a doll! Thanks for making my day.
McMaster killed it with that video. Hellooooo Canada! And yum! But I digress. The dogs were cute too. ;) I actually saw the skateboarder one on Tosh 2.0 a few weeks ago. Crazy. I hope the poor little thing lived. The deer I mean. And S. Silverman is always full on awesome. Her nan was a bit weird, but funny. But seriously, still blowing my mind - the Hexaflexagons. Insane in the membrane. In fact, dare I say it - WITCHCRAFT!!!
I'm not one to read or comment from my phone, but I decided it was important to say that I geeked out at the hexagon lady, too. This took me four hours to type with my thumbs. I need to ask my 13 year old niece for some phone typing speed tips. I digress.
Great post.
@ginidietrich@allenmireles Speed wobbles suck. You shift your weight on a longboard and things can go bad very quickly. Bombing hills like that is fun, but I've definitely had some wicked road rash from bails.
I prefer just cruising and carving around these days. Stuff like this:
@allenmireles@jasonkonopinski I've crashed a bunch, too. I broke my hip three years ago and sliced my helmet in half. I guess it doesn't matter what you're on - 40 mph and higher when not in a car is dangerous.
Monday and Tuesday it was still over a 100 degrees here. The next two days were about 90 and today should be around 85 or so- flannel sheets are something other people use. ;)
Anyhoo, rumor has it the Spin Sucks Gagnam style video is in the works. That would make a fine addition to Gin and Topics.
