Gin and Topics: Triumph the Insult Dog and Cats Playing Patty Cake
Is anyone a dog whisperer? Jack Bauer has decided, of late, between 4:05 and 4:08 is the appropriate time to get up every morning.
I’ve tried making him stay put until 5:00, which is when we normally get up, but he’s a 100 pound dog who jumps up on the bed if you don’t pay attention to him.
And, let’s be real, 4 a.m. is early even for me.
If anyone has any ideas, I’m all ears. I’d like just another 50-55 minutes of sleep. Is that too much to ask?
And speaking of dogs…if you watch only one Gin and Topics video this week, it has to be the one in the #1 spot. I promise you, it will be the best eight minutes you spend.
5. Jordan Knight Makes Old Navy Ad. Deb Dobson and I laughed and laughed at this. If you remember the commercials that sold you mixed tapes, you will think this is hilarious. I’m kind of jealous of Old Navy. Super freaking brilliant YouTube ad campaign!
4. Thank You Hater! Mr. D sent this to me…it’s a very funny video about managing negative comments (cough, trolls, cough) online. It has some bad language so don’t watch if that’ll offend you.
3. Cats Playing Patty Cake. My crazy (as in, real crazy, not ha ha crazy) friend Laura Petrolino posted this on my Facebook wall and pretty much said if I didn’t include it in Gin and Topics, she would unfriend me. So I watched it to be sure it was worthy and HOLY COW it is worth it. So. Freaking. Funny.
2. Mister Rogers Remixed. Last week we had Mrs. Doubtfire remixed. Today it’s Mister Rogers. And, for those of you who grew up with him, you’ll find this both hilarious and disturbing. Actually, after watching this, I’m shocked our parents let us watch this show at all. Creeeeeepy. You can give your thanks to The Invisible Man (aka Bill Dorman).
1. Jack McBrayer and Triumph the Insult Dog Visit Chicago’s Weiner Circle. And now for the piece de resistance. Marc Girolimetti posted this on his Facebook wall, with a tag to his Chicago friends. When Conan was in town last week, they took a visit to the famed Weiner Circle which is, um, known for their “customer service.” In fact, it’s a place we take out-of-town guests without any warning as to what to expect. It’s highly entertaining for us. You’ll see why. Oh, and Marc? When you come to town to mark this off your bucket list, please let me take you!

I think we just don't see enough of Triumph these days, his videos on YouTube are just out and out crazy great humor. Maybe he should have his own talk show and will he be on the November presidential ballot?
Great collection of videos this week GD, appreciate the laughs.
@John_Trader1 I love how you can see the hand of the person holding him and that's OK. It makes me laugh so hard.
@ginidietrich @John_Trader1 That's not just any hand...it's Robert Smigel.
@RebeccaTodd Somehow I knew that but completely forgot. The dude is seriously funny.
LMAO! That last video is the funniest video I've seen in a long time
This was a great line up, thanks for sharing Gini : )
@Mark_Harai Funny, right??
On a separate note, if we were to vacation in Costa Rica, where is the best place to go and what time of year?
@ginidietrich Matter of preference really, Gini. There are benefits to visiting in both the rainy season, and dry season. Just don't come from end of Sept. to mid-November. This is REAL rainy season : )
Let me know if you'd like to chat more about this, I would be happy to give you some info to consider.
@Mark_Harai I shall let you know!

@CraigMcBreen Wasn't that funny??
@ginidietrich Funniest thing I saw all day
I started laughing with Jordan and Old Navy, but you were totally right - #1 is the best. I'm still laughing minutes later.
@UmaChandran "Nothing gets past you...not even carbohydrates!" So. Funny.
The Mr. Rogers video made me smile because even after his death he continues to baffle adults (especially adults who never had children or were born old). To clueless grown-ups, Mr. Rogers was and continues to be creepy. That's because he didn't care what people over ten years old thought. He ignored them to focus on his AUDIENCE: small children. (Sesame Street and most other shows shamefully pander to parents.) And isn't there a message in this for all of us marketing communicators?
@magriebler Very good point. He baffles me as an adult, but as a child I loved him.
The best part was when Jordan sings "what's my sign?" I squealed "TAURUS!!!".
@RebeccaTodd LOL!! Of course you did. Ha.
@ginidietrich But obviously, Donnie was my favourite. Swoon!
I am torn about Wiener Circle. I could have so much fun there, but I might end up getting arrested. Oh my.

@TheJackB I'm pretty sure it's one of the few places in the city you cannot get arrested.
LMAO....OW...my sides hurt!! :0
@lizreusswig Hope you made it home safely!
Mr. Rogers is NOT creepy. How dare you even suggest that? He was the best. The best.
@MarcGirolimetti TOTALLY creepy!
@ginidietrich Not only did I make Gin & Topics, but I debuted at #1. Jordan Knight has got NOTHING on me!
@MSGiro you're so the bomb!
Thanks for this! :)
Leave it to Conan to highlight the vulgar Wiener Circle. #1 Was creative, but Triumph gets my vote. He really let Queen Latweefa have it. Wash your mouth out with soap people.
Gini, how often do you head down to banter with these nice people anyway? It's now on my "must visit" list.
@Craig McBreen I take out-of-town guests there. My favorite is to have them order the chocolate shake. What comes next is not an actual milkshake.
@ginidietrich This would be culture shot to many Seattleites ... oh, my, how rude ;) Looking forward to my first visit and will let them know GD sent me.
@Craig McBreen You must go. It's an experience like no other. :)

@jasonkonopinski Chicago is a tough town, but I could hang with these folks all day ;) If I was in a bad mood I would head right down to vent.
@jasonkonopinski @ginidietrich Still remember the RedSox miracle in 04 and the look on A-Rod's face ;)
@Craig McBreen I proudly proclaim my life-long support of the Red Sox. Somehow @ginidietrich still likes me.

@jasonkonopinski When I was in NY I saw a guy with a RedSox cap. A guy wearing a Yankee cap in Boston would be skinned alive ;) I'm kinda with ya though.
@Craig McBreen Chicago and Boston are in constant battle for "Jason's Favorite City".

I was offended, but listened anyway...
I liked Mr Rogers better when the myth was he was a stone cold special forces killer in Nam and wore the sweater to cover up his tats.
The Conan bit was great; I will definitely have to check out the Weiner Circle next time I'm in the Windy City.
@bdorman264 If you're here and you don't let me take you to the Weiner Circle, I"ll never forgive you. It's right by my house.
@ginidietrich It's a date then..........
Okay, I can't do anything more today, I am too overheated from laughing at the Jack McBrayer video. I have to sign off and try to digest the 'working for tips' comment.
@annelizhannan HAHAH! I loved how they were telling Jack what to say and he looks confused and like he's trying too hard.
"If anyone has any ideas, I’m all ears." You know when a comment begins with a quote, and it's me commenting, @ginidietrich begins to consider regretting the quoted statement. Right?!
If the human dashes to sleep an hour earlier than currently scheduled, the human would achieve an additional 60 minutes of sleep! #Winning! Then human can offer wake-up announcements to said dog, potentially leaving dog wishing for more sleep. Soon dog will be sleeping longer hours, thereby allowing human to revert to previously scheduled sleep schedule and achieving additional desired sleep as initially requested. Thank you for reading another "Simple Solution" brought to you by media monkeybiz. And thank you for the gratuitous opportunity to plug. :)
@DHLasker Especially when the advice is so, um, helpful.
@ginidietrich That's fine. Dis my help, and after you've tried everything else, you'll be acknowledging that @DHLasker may have had a successful solution. By then, I may have even written a book, or two.
#5 reminded me of this: http://youtu.be/0Axzxe1a78E
But you're right, #1 totally, totally wins. Soooo good!

The Weiner Circle video was THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
@ifdyperez I'm taking you there when you come to visit!
@ginidietrich oh, i don't know... i think i'd storm out of there crying and calling my mom. unless you'd be my version of triumph, the insult comic dog and back me up!
Malibu Ken.
Ha. Ha.
@bradmarley LOL! It just makes me laugh to think about it.
