Pintology Tests Pinterest Ideas to Save You Time

For most of the second half of last year, my only sister (I also have four brothers) kept asking me if I was on Pinterest yet.

Not needing yet another addiction, I kept telling her no. So, when I was home for the holidays, not only did she make me get on there, she got me completely addicted.

I’m pretty sure I spent at least 30 hours on the site, getting my boards set the way I wanted them, following people, and adding images.

And now? I LOVE PINTEREST (I know; shocking)!

But I also became quickly disenchanted, particularly with the recipes, because – while beautiful images – they just didn’t taste good.

So I began to use my “must make” board as inspiration, but by creating my own recipes around the ideas.

Well, it turns out it runs in the family. Because my only sister – whose name is Laney Namanny – has created a blog called Pintology, which tests things she finds on Pinterest and tells you whether or not they actually work.

She has four kids (four of my 14 nieces and nephews) so you can imagine she’s time-crunched and her ability to focus is spread thin.

Her goal is to save other moms time by providing a rating (pins up or pins down) on things you’ll find on Pinterest. Things such as homemade Febreeze, ointment, bath paints, nail polish remover, candles, recipes, and more.

The rating system includes ease, effectiveness, cost, time, and practicality. And she loves the dollar store so you know if she ranks it low in cost, it really is cost-effective.

Yesterday she was on The Daily Dish in Utah (where I grew up and she still lives) showing how easy it is to make bath paints, Febreeze, and ice packs.

Not only am I super proud of her, but I think you’ll find her tips extremely useful.

I know it’s not typical of me to do reviews here, but she’s my sister and she rocks.

So check out Pintology and save yourself time when using Pinterest!

That idea rocks! Will pass along to friends who actually cook. :)

@Tinu I love that you're hanging out on Spin Sucks right now. Getting caught up!

@ginidietrich Well, I'm a raving fan. Also: have to work at commenting on my favorite blogs more often. I'm writing about how my research makes me into a crazy person right now. SpinSucks is definitely an exception to that.

@Tinu It's hard. I get to about five blogs a day...and I try to spread it out so I"m not reading the same stuff over and over again. So I get it! Well, the part about commenting more often...not the crazy part!

So worked for years to build your blog and in one fell swoop your sister reached an even bigger audience. ;)

Her idea is very cool. I have looked at a lot of the stuff on Pinterest and wondered how many people are actually capable of making things that look like the pictures,

I might have to try the bath paints for my daughter. I bet she'll love those.

@TheJackB That darn Pinterest! All you have to do is blog about it and your traffic spikes. But I'm very proud of her. Maybe she can make some money doing this!

The bath paints are pretty cool! It's just shaving cream and food coloring.

I made all your must makes and they were way too salty and had too much bacon and butter, Not sure where you found them......wait.......hold on...I am getting an update on the teleprompter.....ooops sorry that was @kenmueller 's board called salt/bacon/butter.

I think you hit on a very common thread about the common person. There is a reason we buy Saveur or read this blog. Experts just have better stuff.

So if you had married your brother inlaw it would Arment-Namanny I kind of like the sound of that.

So when are you getting her over to Word press? ;-)

@HowieG  I'm working on getting her to WordPress! We've been working on it for a couple of weeks. You know me well.

What a great idea! Pinterest should definitely should integrate some kind of "review" option. I think she's on to something. I'm looking forward to reading this and sharing with my friends!

@rachaelseda I think we joked about this at one time - that you should be able to easily say, "I've tried that and it did/didn't work."

Gini, I love your sister's PINS UP/PINS DOWN system.

I love that you actually DID talk about your sister & showcase her, because she's a *real* person using social media for *real* stuff. Yes, I know you and I are not holograms, but you know what I mean. You, Laney, Pinterest & Pintology rock!

Oh boy, do I need this!!! I am always pinning helpful tricks & tips (for my  kids next disaster!) I will definitely be checking this out!

@sydcon_mktg Your kids are probably too old for bath paint, but that's a very cool idea!

@ginidietrich They are but maybe I am not! HA!! Seriously though I have seen the carpet cleaners, etc that seem like good ideas! One that did work was re-using drier sheets when cleaning bathrooms (helps repel soap scum, etc) and caulk on the bottom of throw rugs instead of buying rug mats (This was for my mother in law).

@sydcon_mktg Caulk on the bottom of throw rugs. THAT is a great idea! She also tested lemonade in the dishwasher and I guess that works really well, too.

This is genius! Not only will Pinterest be a time suck, but your sister's blog will be too!

This is brilliant! I love Pinterest for recipes and any I've tried have been yummy but now I can save some time and check out Pintology if I come across any I'm unsure about. ;)

@EdenSpodek You've had better luck than me. I'm always finding images that look glorious and then click on the recipe and it's made with cream soup and ketchup.

What a genius idea.  Heading over there right now.  And if I don't get anything productive done for the rest of the day, I'm holding you and your sister accountable!
