The bookmarking aspect of social networking is one that I have often seen overlooked as people jump directly to Facebook and Twitter for their social networking cites. But with so much content on the Internet in a variety of ways, bookmarking is a useful tool in sharing a specified avenue of content. As much as people link to certain articles, it is sometimes overlooked to explore the entirety of the cite. While Delicious, StumbleUpon and Reddit are useful tools in this, as a social networking society as a whole, I think we should factor bookmarking cites into social media strategies more.

Hey Carlo! I’ve been a big fan of social bookmarking since Delicious was, well, del.icio.us. When it went away, I moved to Diigo, then Evernote, then StumbleUpon, then Instapaper, and now I’m back to Diigo. From your experience, which of all the sites do you like the best?

Social bookmarking sites were how I really entered social media. Used to use Digg a lot (of course, it’s bookmarking in name only now, RIP). The most important thing for people to remember is that they are communities and if you *use* them without providing something of value, you won’t get anywhere. Be a good community member and you can do very well.
