Danny Brown and Gini Dietrich at SocialCapital

By Gini Dietrich

As you each have experienced, there are friends who are with you through thick and thin.

You can disagree. You can argue (even in the comments here). You can wonder if the other person’s head is on straight sometimes. You can even be totally disgusted with a decision they’ve made.

But your friendship remains in tact because you like and respect one another so much.

That’s how it is with my friendship with Danny Brown (not saying I’ve ever been disgusted with him; just making a point about really good friends).

No matter how many times we disagree on a topic (daily), we remain friends.

He’s the type of friend who you don’t see for years and then pick up right where you left off.

He’s good people and I’m excited to have him on today’s Spin Sucks Inquisition (even though it’s his fault I had to record after riding 53 miles and don’t look put together).

The Spin Sucks Inquisition

I asked Danny the normal questions (which you can find below), but was reminded, when I asked him the surprise question, that he can play the pencil.

Clearly that is the key point in all of this.

Here is what else we discussed:

  • Tell us who you are and what you do.
  • What is the biggest mistake you’ve made in the past six months?
  • What is one of the biggest trends you’ll be using this year?
  • What is one thing about yourself that would surprise most people?
  • What is the best book you’ve read in the last six months?
  • What is your latest Netflix binge?
  • The Five Second Rule
  • Where can people find you online?

If you can’t watch the video below, you can find it by clicking here.

I totally won that game, right? I mean, he flat out said, “No” to one of the questions!

Where You Can Find Danny Brown

Go stalk Danny online, if you don’t already do so.

You can find him on:

You can also read his eBooks or read the book he co-authored with Sam Fiorella, Influence Marketing.

Now the floor is yours.

  • Well, nice to see you do your research…. I haven’t been on Google+ for about 6 months now, sheesh… 🙂 You can find me on Instagram, though, if that’s your thing.

    https://www.instagram.com/dannybcanada/

And don’t be blaming me for your “not put togetheredness” – we already decided you shall henceforth be known as Gini Van Zandt, so ya, hence.

PS – thanks for clarifying the “not done something disgusting yet”, I was beginning to get worried….. 🙂

    • LOL! I was trying to make a point about good friends and then realized that could be taken the wrong way.

Susan Cellura calls me Axel…I don’t know if I prefer that or Van Zandt.

      • Well. Axel can be a bit whiny and high maintenance, while Van Zandt is all talent and headband. So…. 🙂

  • The irony of the Taylor Swift question was pretty much immediately after the video ended, I thought of “Shake It Off”, which I annoyed my wide with incessantly last year, “Romeo and Juliet” and “19”. Le sigh…

    • HAHAHA! See! Your love for Taylor Swift was just camera shy! You can redeem yourself by playing “Shake It Off” on a pencil though!

(Well, except this one. But after this one, no comment)

  • Is this a windows machine (left) and apple machine (right) video comparison? #imjustsaaaaayin

  • That was …umm… interesting..

    • When you say “interesting”, you mean fascinating and one of the very best examples of how to show your pride in the lack of Taylor Swift knowledge, right?

      • yes, yes that was it.. But But I think think it was Axel there .. who carried the thing to the level of fascination.
and yes, I barely know who Taylor Swift is let alone her song library .. yes, I am clueless….

  • SEE?! Once Phil gets in your head…

Danny, I had the same reaction to Jessica Jones; in fact, didn’t make it through the first episode.

Fun inquisition as usual! Have a great weekend everyone…

    • I still don’t know who Phil Donahue is. Am I missing some comedic genius? Is he like Phil Lamarr?

I’ll probably try and watch some more JJ this weekend, as everyone I know loves it. Then again, many people I know also loved Jersey Shore, so I’m not sure how much faith I should put in their judgement…

      Have a great weekend yourself!

      • He’s an old (and former) talk show host. My inquisition was last week, and when Laura asked me to name 3 talk show hosts, my mind went blank, except for Phil Donahue. His show lasted over 25 years, so, yeah, he sticks in your head!

        • Ahhh, now I remember his name. But at least you got him in the right category!

          • And let us not forget (as my extensive research uncovered after last Friday), Phil Donahue’s show was key to introducing USA viewers to hip hop (because Wikipedia is always right): “In 1984, Donahue introduced many viewers to hip-hop culture for the first time, as a program featured breakdancing for the first time on national television, accompanied by a performance from the hip hop group UTFO”

    • I was hoping you saw that! LOL!

  • OMG, I seriously snort-laughed when Gini asked about marketing trends.

    • You’d think she’d know by now, eh? Clearly not….

      • Oh, I would totally ask the same thing if I had been doing the interview. Your responses to that kind of question are just too good not to ask!

        • Ha! Well, as I mentioned to Gini, probably a good thing it was on here, as opposed to somewhere with a more lax vocabulary… 🙂

    • And I didn’t even get a real answer! I wanted a fight! No fun.

      • Err, hold your horses, missus! I gave you three answers, so check your status! 🙂

  • Oh goodness … where to begin? I’ll go from the very substantial to the relatively trivial. I really enjoyed this inquisition and: a) Danny I am glad to have had some interactions with you around the Friendship Bench Project, which I think is incredible b) I am kind of sorry I didn’t have the 5 second challenge but simultaneously SO RELIEVED c) on the “name 3 unintentionally phallic images topic”? I just have three words: Florida Capitol Building. http://cabinetmagazine.org/events/phallic/mostvotes.php

    • Hey there miss,

Thank you! The Friendship Bench is equally one of the most rewarding and heartbreaking projects I’ve ever been a part of. Rewarding in that so many students and colleges are on board; heartbreaking, because the need for something like The Friendship Bench is there in the first place.

Just this week, we heard of a 15 year old who took their life, and the impact it’s had on the parents who’re just going through the grieving process. I’m a dad to two young kids, and I can’t imagine the pain if something ever happened to them…

I’m just glad I never got Gini’s question about naming three things you sit on. That could have gone horribly wrong…

  • Bill Dorman

Well Danny Boy, one of the well known presences online when I first jumped in who was more than gracious making me feel welcome and part of the crowd. Unfortunately, I didn’t have quite the staying power but I wouldn’t have changed anything and really appreciate you and your efforts.

Good to see you featured, hope all is well with you and the family and best of luck for a very worthwhile, entertaining and prosperous 2016.

    • Hey there Bill,

Great to see you, mate, and sorry to hear of you “drifting away”, but completely understandable, mate. Life has so many things to take care of, we need to prioritize – I know I’ve been cutting back in many areas myself, and my use of social (and the web in general) is much different than the heady days of 2010-2012, when we probably all played in the same sand pit.
      🙂

Thanks for the kind words, and hope you and yours are keeping well, sir!

  • I love Danny’s, “is that 15 questions” comment.

Someone should have warned them higher math was involved in this.

Thumbs up for Jessica Jones and Daredevil.

    • Ha! Well, you know… you go on, and you hear, “OK, we have five questions for you.”

And you think, “OK, I can do that.”

Then you hear there are three answers to every question. Then Gini loses count, and I think we ended up at seven questions. I’m traumatized! 🙂

  • You guys are crazy! All three! I can’t stop laughing.
I wonder how the swearing version would look like. 😁

    • There’s an unedited version hanging around on YouTube Unlisted…. 😉

  • Another great inquisition. Love the “no” answer. I was waiting for sheep to make it into the conversation but alas…

    • Hehe, maybe that can come up in the R-rated chat that includes swearing when asked to discuss marketing trends in 2016…. 🙂

  • I watched just to listen to Danny’s accent for 20 minutes… and then to tease him on Twitter about TayTay and RiRi.

    • I have no idea what you’re talking about. Is that even English?

  • You’re not bitter about that ham at all. Nope.

    • I’m not bitter about it. I’m a vegetarian. I think it’s hilarious. Mr. D? Not so much.

      • Ha! Well, you looked bitter about it.
