Kate NolanBy Gini Dietrich

For those of you who took the Modern Blogging Masterclass, you know Kate Nolan well.

She was the student who put the lessons on her big screen TV and poured herself a drink and got to work.

Even if you didn’t take the course, you likely know her from the comments here.

She’s kind of a big deal ’round these parts.

Because she’s in Chicago (sort of…she’s in a suburb), I get to see her every so often, which is great fun for me.

Last time I saw her, I had this delicious strawberry foamy drink that I dream about (as if I can’t go back to the restaurant and have it).

That’s what I allude to in today’s Spin Sucks Inquisition, when we talk about pineapple gum.

For as long as I’ve known her, she’s been talking about leaving her job to start a food blog.

And, ladies and gentlemen, as of a week ago, that is now what she is doing!

(While also taking some side gigs in social media strategy and execution and content development.)

Here she is … on video.

The Spin Sucks Inquisition

I asked Kate the normal questions (which you can find below):

  • Tell us who you are and what you do.
  • What is the biggest mistake you’ve made in the past six months?
  • What is one of the biggest trends you’ll be using this year?
  • What is one thing about yourself that would surprise most people?
  • What is the best book you’ve read in the last six months?
  • What is your latest Netflix binge?
  • The Five Second Rule
  • Where can people find you online?

If you can’t watch the video below, you can find it by clicking here.

Yay, Kate! I’m grinning right now. 😀

    • KERMITARMFLAIL! 😃

  • Well, Kate (and Gini/Laura), this is a firsts – an Inquisition where I was jotting down notes in order to craft a response! First, what a fun inquisition and so great getting to know you better, Kate! I, too, am really challenged with the “being ruthless with my time” part. I guess that’s just always a work in progress for many of us. Oh, and CONGRATS on taking the leap. Although I still have MUCH to figure out, the lack of Mondayitis alone is one huge bonus of leaping. Hopefully income and professional fulfillment will follow! I was also a flute player!!!! And although the “where’s your flute” question is a tad bittersweet because I literally ( <<<— I know, Laura) will never pick up my flute again, I love the story because it's a social media win. I gave my old flute to Moore, OK, because their band room was decimated by tornadoes years ago and they lost so much of their equipment. In the process, I gained several new friends in OK who are social media friends to this day. Another friend sent her flute too. A "Tallahassee flute duo" winged its way to Oklahoma! And my son loved Ready Player One, for what that's worth! And now I find myself wanting a trendy pink drink so we may share one someday! 🙂

  • We inspired notes? I think that’s my biggest win this week. Ok, second biggest after being on the Inquisition.
Yes, there is much to learn, but right now I love that everything feels limitless. Don’t know something? I can learn it and apply it!
Guess I need to figure out that drink so we can have a virtual cocktail hour together!

    Hi Kate,

Congratulations on going out on your own with the blog. I wish you much success.

Gini has given me the business over my lack of Netflix binge watching so I caved and binged on Making a Murderer. It was pretty good.

Oh, and you should play the flute again. Really. imagine a Spinsucks Crazies Band? How cool would that be.

    • Thanks, Kevin!
And I think you’re right, can we make it a Jimmy Fallon/Roots type band so we can do covers? 🙂

  • Kate rocks! Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.

    • Daaaaw! *blushes*

  • Kate, I’ve seen your name here for so long and it’s great finally getting to *meet* you. Gini’s right about getting back to your musical roots. You’ve got to share a photo of a container pineapple gum. This was so much fun. Good luck with your new business and Happy Friday!

    • Hi, Eden!
Yes, I’m definitely going to figure out how to get more music back in my life. And when I get that pineapple gum, I’ll share a pic!
      Happy Friday to you!

  • Hi, Kate…didn’t know about the food blog. Love it!

  • The ruthless pied piper cake baker of Spinsucks. I think the biggest mistake you have made this year is not “Hearting & Liking” my FaceBook and Instagram content quickly enough. Nice to meet you Nolan.

  • Hey Kate,

This is a hilarious inquisition. It’s great to meet you and learn a little more about you. Congrats for taking the leap, that is AWESOME!

I didn’t know about the food blog, either! OMG, after yesterday’s cake recipe you shared on Facebook, now only looking at the images on your blog, I am really hungry. They look delicious.

    Great to meet you.

    Enjoy your day!
What are you cooking this weekend? I’m coming!
