Today’s #FollowFriday needs no introduction. And I’m cheating a little bit because I wrote about her this time last year.
But it’s her birthday today so I figured you wouldn’t mind.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LISA!!
Lisa Gerber is our chief content officer. She runs all of the guest posts here at Spin Sucks, which is no small job. She also began doing client work in January and now leads three of our biggest accounts.
About 18 months ago, I was shopping at Nordstrom (and then Sephora) and I called Lisa. I was venting that I needed some help with content on both Spin Sucks and this new project I wanted to launch (which you now know as Spin Sucks Pro). I told her I needed someone who I really trusted. As I stood on the corner of Michigan and Grand, in the dark, she said, “I’ll do it.” Continue Reading »
Your clicks have told us your favorite guest blog posts for 2011 and we have compiled the Top 10 here for your review, and, for 10 of you, for your bragging rights.
We started working with guest bloggers on Spin Sucks around the middle of 2010 for a few reasons: To involve the community, broaden the expertise offered here, grow beyond Gini Dietrich, and increase engagement and traffic.
We think it worked, and we all had some fun along the way. Our guest bloggers have become an important part of our community, and we wanted to dedicate today to you guys by sharing this list, based on pageviews. Continue Reading »
Today I’m listing the July through December recommendations.
Actually, I don’t know that Shrek started July off (though it would be easy for me to figure out). I just divided the list in half so last week there were 22 and this week there were 21.
That’s all the math there is to it, but it should divide pretty equally.
I hope I don’t disappoint anyone, but I’m replacing Gini Dietrich this week. She asked me to help her out as she actually is taking some vacation days, believe it or not.
Her question to me was…
“Molli, you’ve worked at Arment Dietrich for nearly six years. During those six years, what are the top three accomplishments you’ve seen the firm achieve?” Continue Reading »
Bring me your case studies, your articles, your podcasts, and your webinars!
Two weeks ago, I shared with you How to Create an Editorial Calendar, based in part, on work we are doing for Spin Sucks Pro. We are creating a curriculum for digital marketing, strategic planning, inbound marketing, content marketing, and digital PR. And that’s just this year.
Much of the curriculum has been designed, and a great deal of content has been produced. But it’s never enough. And that is where you come in.
So I’m turning it over to you, Spin Sucks community, with an open call for your content. We have a powerful and smart community here representing a variety of areas of expertise, from a variety of industries.
If you are interested in contributing, please read on for details. Continue Reading »
This is not my typical #FollowFriday. Typically, as many of you know, I recommend only bloggers and authors, with the intent of introducing you to new voices and helping them increase their networks.
But today, though most of you likely already know her, I want to delve further into our chief content officer, Lisa Gerber (aka the face behind Spin Sucks on Twitter).
Lisa and I met at Counselor’s Academy in Palm Springs two years ago. In fact, we met two years ago today (I know this because we’re at the same conference in Vegas right now). We instantly became friends/bosom buddies/soulmates and wondered aloud, many times, how we could create a way to work together.
But Lisa lives in Idaho and I live in Chicago and, while technology makes the divide not so great, I knew how important it is to have a start-up team in one spot while we launch, and get through the first year of, Spin Sucks Pro.
And she works with local companies who don’t care to have a presence in Chicago or New York, so it didn’t make sense for her to form a partnership with us. Continue Reading »
It has come to my attention that not every blogger knows about or uses PostRank.
My mission today is to change that!
You see, PostRank is one of the tools that AdAge uses to determine their Power 150. But, even if your goal isn’t to get into the top 10 (like it is ours – I’m not competitive), the information it gives you, layered on top of your Google analytics, helps you make extremely informed decisions about your writing, your community, your social shares, your geographic reach, and more.
When we started Spin Sucks, it was with the idea that we would be able to publicly promote all of the good work the PR industry does and help to change perception that we’re all snakeoil salesmen. But, as of late, it seems everyone is highlighting the really bad professionals in our field (aren’t there bad professionals in every field?) from stray hashtag tweets and advertising gone wrong to fake personas and astroturfing. All is amiss and we only have ourselves to blame. Continue Reading »
This post was already cooking in my brain last week and then Gini Dietrich wrote about social media in Egypt. She got in my head a little bit but I have more to say, so pardon some of the redundancy (we could all use a little repetition, couldn’t we?).
I had a real estate developer client many years ago. They were very proud of the fact that they had Internet access in their homes and as far as they were concerned, I couldn’t make that fact prominent enough in all the messaging.
Really? (I thought). Should we also mention that there are floors in the homes? And oh! How about telephone access? We need to include that. At what point do we realize social media isn’t so shiny anymore? When do we stop giving it credit for doing things like starting a civil rights revolution, or tumbling a company, because of an offensive tweet?
Every organization is online in some manner or another. It’s like having a telephone or a floor in your home. Only, some are better at it than others, just like some floors are a polished hardwood, and others are curling linoleum. Continue Reading »
Lisa joining the Arment Dietrich and Spin Sucks executive team is really personal to me because Lisa and I started as friends two years ago. I would moan and complain that she got to ski every day and she would moan and complain that I didn’t have to drive two hours to go to a PRSA meeting.
So, while I still don’t get to ski every day, she doesn’t have to drive two hours to go to a PRSA meeting any longer! Baby steps.
Without further ado, I introduce Lisa to you!
