That money goes into research into alternate fuels, and into buying forest land to preserve trees that take up and store carbon, and into purchasing planting.  That&#039;s why it is called &quot;offsetting.&quot;  Most other civilized countries have already adopted such practices.  How is it that the most progressive country in the world has let its leadership slide on this unnoticed and unremarked by the main stream media?]]></description>
