#FollowFriday: Erica Allison
I remember the moment I “met” Erica Allison. She was testing out video (which she’s really good at) and I was the subject of her very first video blog.
I remember getting the alert that I’d been mentioned and I went over to the video and started to watch it. I still have the same reaction watching it that I did that first time. My cheeks flushed, I grinned from ear to ear, and I thought, “Who the heck is this woman?” It’s one of the nicest things anyone has ever done/said about me.
Since then, just six short months ago (though it seems like we’ve been friends forever), Erica has been a student of blogging.
She guest blogged for us last week and knocked it out of the park with 92 (!!!) comments, 75 tweets, and nearly 2,000 pageviews.
Let’s be real: That rivals my level of engagement…and I wasn’t on there encouraging people. It was all her
Earlier this week, she wrote on her blog, Allison Development Group, a phenomenal post about not buying the cow if you can get the milk for free. Right now, she’s up to 64 comments, but what I find even more interesting is that it went all over the web, including Facebook posts from the likes of Danny Brown. It even was included in a closed Facebook group where some heavy hitters participate.
Trust me on this one. You want to get to know Erica. She’s going to quickly become an A-lister in the next wave of them so why not make her part of your A-list now?
She blogs about PR and marketing, being a mom and a business owner, and life in general.
There are plenty of ways you can connect with her: Twitter, Facebook, her blog, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
In fact, you can get her thinking for free in all of those places while she ramps up her paid content offerings. Read her, connect with her, get to know her. You’ll love her cute little accent and you’ll love the way she treats you and everyone around her. YWRI.
Wow, this is one great lady! I've been aware of Erica for a number of weeks, ever since she requested my friendship on Facebook; I thought "who is this lady?"
Now, of course, I'm fully aware who she is, and I'm very honoured that she would request my humble companionship.
Here's to Erica, one of the best :-)
Stuart Mills Wow, Stuart. Thank you so much. I noticed you via your comments and then guest post on DannyBrown 's blog and realized I better connect with you soon! Glad I did. I've enjoyed reading your comments, reading your blog (of which I'm currently still lurking - will rectify soon!), and your digital footprint. Thanks again, Stu.
EricaAllison I like to think I'm leaving behind a very friendly 'digital footprint' Erica, thanks for the kind words ;-)
It's been a pleasure to watch you grow from the sidelines Erica, and I will make sure I visit your blog VERY soon. Feel free to stop by Unlock The Door whenevr you can :-)
So many comments! Must be a popular lady.
It's difficult to add anything to the glowing tributes paid already so I would just like to say that EricaAllison is a lovely gal to know and well done to ginidietrich for giving her the recognition she undoubtedly deserves :-)
TonyH Thanks Tony!
I stalk...........er, uh follow Ms Erica and have even called her on the phone. She didn't recognize the number and made the mistake of answering..........:). The cool thing was we talked like we had been friends for awhile AND she helped me get a little deeper w/ my HootSuite education and answered a Skype question as well. I really enjoyed it.
She's roughed me up a couple of times but you don't know it when it's happening and it has been for my own good.
I actively engage w/ her (imagine that) and would encourage anybody reading the comments to do the same. I love her vlogs and get on to her if she exceeds her 2 minute timer; I did give her a hall pass for the Mother's Day vlog which was excellent.
Good choice Gini, you pick them well.
bdorman264 Now I know your number, Dorman! : )
I'm glad we had the chance to talk on the phone and for sure know it won't be the last time. I'm here waiting for your first Skype call and if I can help, you know I will. Roughed up, huh? It was for your own good and you know it. :)
Try as I might, I just can't make all of my videos fit in that 2 min time frame...you'll just have to hang in there with me! Thanks for the kinds words, Bill. I really do appreciate them.
I am still getting to know Erica, and I love working with you so far and can't wait to get to know you more. Like DannyBrown said, I've been a blog lurker, that's because I'm always reading my blogs on my little phone which makes it not so easy to comment. But love your videos the most. and your hair. (this coming from someone who can't control her hair in the midwest).
Lisa Gerber Thanks, Lisa! Pleasure getting to know you as well - you and ginidietrich make an awesome pair! Look out world! Good to know my lurkers are stand up people like you and DannyBrown . :) Come on out now, I know you're there.
Oh, new video up today...and thanks for the hair comment. Feels like a mop-top today, but thank you!
EricaAllison Lisa Gerber Lisa is freaking about her hair. She thinks it looks frizzy. I disagree. We're our own worst critics.
ginidietrich Lisa Gerber I love her hair...what I've been able to see from photos. I always wanted curly hair when I was little - I had stick straight stuff that my mom cut. Terrible!
Hey Erica,
I know you! Congratulations on this Feature post! From all I know of you so far, you well deserve it.
Lori
Lori Thank you, Lori! I'm proud to say I know you, too! :)
deleted_91832_Sean McGinnis OK Mr. M. You have to stop calling me Mrs. D. That's Kelly's GRANDMOTHER!
deleted_91832_Sean McGinnis Considering you think you're my older brother (or at least treat me that way), I'm certain you can come up with your own nickname. And, while I'm the oldest of six, my nieces and nephews think I'm the youngest because I AM SO COOL!
I think I got to know Erica at Soulati-tude, and was immediately impressed by her practical--and very REAL--demeanor. She's confident and savvy, and she'd been there all along! As 3hatscomm said, I'd like to read more, but just yesterday I was about to comment on one and got sidetracked by an older one. I'll never be able to keep up, but it's never time wasted with Erica on her blog or on Twitter.
ShakirahDawud I'd change your savvy to sassy. She's definitely SASSY!
ginidietrich By all means, lol!
ginidietrich ShakirahDawud I do LIKE being SASSY! :)
EricaAllison ginidietrich I should add Erica got me to share a lot more about myself than I think I have even on my own blog with her "Mogul Moms" contest (reading it, Erica, it's a good one), and the spirit of her "Want Referrals?" post really clicked in terms of what networking should be about, especially over long distances.
ShakirahDawud Thanks, Shakirah! I didn't catch this comment until just tonight! Very sweet of you to say and I very much appreciate it.
I was pleased to meet Erica through Triberr- once upon a time we were in it together. Now that she has become huge we climb the mountain to go meet with her. ;)
TheJackB Oh I believe you're on that mountain, too!
ginidietrich Was on that mountain. I do believe that I fell off of it and bounced all the way down because I have one hell of a knot in my back and a bruise on my arm to boot.
If those State Farm commercials were real I'd singing about a masseuse showing up right now. Ok, ignore me- I am in dire need of coffee.
ginidietrich TheJackB I agree! I'm still trying to climb up to meet Jack, but getting hit along the way by all the others falling down...
EricaAllison TheJackB LOL!!
EricaAllison No way, you are at the summit while I am working on my ascent. Speaking of scents, I smell barbecue- mouth is watering.... ginidietrich
I already follow EricaAllison and read her blog and I'd say I need to read more often but that applies to too darn many blogs and there are these quaint concepts of sleep and work and showers. Or so I've heard. Ahem. Good choice as always. FWIW.
3HatsComm What?! You sleep and shower?! You should be ashamed of yourself.
ginidietrich I'm just weird that way. I've also been known to play cards and drink wine and not read blogs for like hours and hours, probably need to do something about that. Slack.
3HatsComm WHAT?! I'm really beginning to question your commitment, Davina.
ginidietrich 3HatsComm Likely story...
If you say she is worth following, then I am headed off to go find her blog and read it. That is all for now. I shall be back with something smartassy later.
NancyD68 Oh I can't wait! Should I hold my breath?
ginidietrich I will worry about you if you turn blue, it is not your color my dear :)
NancyD68 Well, navy blue is my color. But I guess I don't get to chose the hue, do I?
ginidietrich You will start turning that horrid smurf blue, and that is cute for no one.
NancyD68 Thanks, Nancy. I've seen you hanging out here at SS - glad to 'meet you'.
EricaAllison It is nice to "meet" you too. I have seen you around here as well, and you always have something good to say. Glad to see Gini spotlighting more good women in business.
You got an accent? Didn't know dat. I think @Shonali has you beat (oops, she's trying to take the day off). Hah, Gin Blossom, got you beat! I had privilege of meeting Erica the Pixie at Social Slam (you were having an anniversary, I recall), and she's one of those chicas with whom you immediately become soul sistahs. I'm so impressed with your impact, Girl! I need some lessons!
Soulati | B2B Social Media Marketing Shonali doesn't have an accent. She has a lovely lilt. What's even more awesome is when she swears in that gorgeous voice. It doesn't fit and it's hilarious. And I think you should be giving the lessons, not asking for them.
ginidietrich Soulati | B2B Social Media Marketing Shonali I agree...I'm still the student of you rockin' ladies...impact, indeed. I would love to hear Shonali swear !
EricaAllison Oh, you will. :p ginidietrich Great FF post! Soulati | B2B Social Media Marketing
ginidietrich Thank you for saying I don't have an accent... I think you're the first! You should hear me when I speak to other Indians (or people of Indian origin) - my husband finds it hilarious. All that's missing is the "figure eight head waggle." Soulati | B2B Social Media Marketing Now I have to hear you!
Love this highlighting of EricaAllison , ginidietrich - like you say, the girl plain out rocks and I love reading her stuff (or watching). I don't comment often enough over at Erica's blog - that will be amended. Stat.
DannyBrown I'm guilty of that, too. Sometimes I read blog posts before I sleep and wake up with my face on George I, having not commented on a thing, but read it all.
Awesome choice for a #FF Shout Out BFF - Erica is not only an amazing personality she is someone I think we'd all love to have as a friend IRL. So here's to the well deserved accolades from those who already Follow her...and to those who have yet to take the opportunity - she is definitely worth the "clickthrough". Cheers Erica.
DonovanGroupInc She definitely is someone you'd want to have in your close group of friends, isn't she?!
ginidietrich DonovanGroupInc Thank you! I'd like to think so...:)
Erica was only sort of on my radar until I met her at #soslam - and she was soooo great! I have to agree on this one!
