#FollowFriday: Shonali Burke

Last week’s #FollowFriday was a readers’ choice and I am going to compile a folder so you can subscribe to the recommendations all at once (coming next week – it was more work than I expected). But, this week we’re back to our normal #FollowFriday.

I first met Shonali Burke, heck, now I don’t remember. I think it was during Danny Brown’s, Grant Griffiths’s and John Haydon’s Start Blogging Today Twitter chat. I’ve gotten to know her better through Twitter, Facebook, on her blog, and during PRapalooza, a fun podcast she, Danny, and I did with Joe Hackman a couple of weeks ago. She is the real deal.

So, without further ado, today’s #FollowFriday is Shonali Burke.

I should have run into Shonali much earlier in my career because she’s active in IABC and is one of the communication industry’s consummate professionals.

Blogging at Waxing Unlyrical, at BNET and at Network Solutions, she commands a presence of the English language that is becoming a lost art in our country. She also is an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University. With experience on two continents, two coasts, big agencies, small agencies, corporate life, and non-profit, you’d guess her to be 100 years old. But she’s not! She began working when she was 10.

She is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, plus she has a beautiful accent. You have to get her on the phone just to hear it!

While she runs about a gazillion events every week and runs her own communication practice, she always has time to help, to answer questions, and to learn more about you as a person.

I recommend following her on Twitter, checking out her website, subscribing to Waxing Unlyrical, and finding a way to hear that gorgeous lilt! She’s already promised to make me real, homemade, authentic Indian food next time I’m in D.C. But I get it first – don’t you dare try!

I was at the IABC Research & Measurement Conference yesterday when I stole a look at Twitter on my BlackBerry (no wifi, so I was not on it much) and was blown away by this, Gini. How kind of you. Thank you! And the comments are hilarious.

Tell you what, guys, if you are all able to converge on DC at the same time, we will have a special dinner, cooked by moi - AFTER Gini has her special dinner, of course - and we'll call it the Spin Sucks edition. How does that sound?

@Shonali I get a special dinner! I get a special dinner! Woo hoo! And sorry about the crazies here. We have fun, but they're all certifiable!

@JohnHaydon What a nice thing to say, John, and I can say the same for you from personal experience. Thank you!

Great pick Gini! I have really enjoyed chatting with her via Twitter, reading her blog and listening to her input (and accent!) on the PRapalooza chat. She really is very nice and smart!

@ginidietrich Hey thank Gini! I do try but I have to say I am lucky to have some pretty smart friends that are always generous enough to recommend even more smart people for me to get to know...so thanks! ;)

@rachaelseda You know how they say surround yourself with smart people? You do a really good job with that!

Great pick Gini, I recently added her to my blogroll and #FF picks. Shonali is very smart, so engaged and helpful. And thanks to Joe's podcast, I got to hear her wonderful accent too. :-) Nice to see her get the FollowFriday love, she's so worthy.

@ginidietrich @3HatsComm You're cracking me up. :P I have to say, Davina, getting to you know you has been awesome too. Love 3HC (hmm, maybe you should make that your own personal hashtag...).

Wow the write up sounds incredible Gini! 8)
Talk about pressure. Well before I follow her I will give Shonali the chance to discuss the ramifications of possibly connecting with me with you. Just look what happened to you and your blog Gini. Never mind the psychological damage Danny Brown is now having due to me.

Lastly
Isn't IABC a Rootbeer Brand? Like the best Root Beer Brand out there?

@HowieG Sigh..it's IBC, silly! Apparently you don't think it's ALL that great!

Before you follow @shonali you definitely should let her tell you why you, specifically, should not follow her. I'd like to save her sanity.

Mmm, the food sounds so good :). Not following Shonali is like not drinking coffee. You can make it through the day, but you won't be nearly as energized or insightful. #justsayin :) Great pick.

Btw, Gini, do you have a Twitter list of all your #FollowFridays?

@JGoldsborough That's the first time I've ever been compared to coffee. Love it! Thank you. :)
