I met Kate Finley at a PRSA event a couple of weeks ago.
She immediately struck me as one of our industry’s up-and-comers because she: A) Wasn’t afraid to introduce herself to me and tell me something we had in common (cycling); B) Follow me on the social networks and make sure she stayed top-of-mind with me; C) Took what we talked about that evening and immediately applied some tips; and D) Writes an awesome blog about food and fitness.
Speaking of her blog, 30 days ago, she undertook a challenge to live by a Paleo diet for 30 days. You can see the results here, but a sneak peak is she lost 10 pounds and two dress sizes.
I firmly believe part of the reason she was able to do this is she blogged about it. She made it visible, she tracked results, and she allowed readers to hold her accountable.
Now she’s on to the 30 day fitness challenge, where she’ll exercise for a concentrated 30 minutes every day…and combine that with her clean eating.
I know this isn’t the typical PR or marketing blog, but (as a hiring manager and blogger), I’m really impressed with her commitment to herself and to her blog. If her resume landed on my desk, this is the type of thing that would put her above her competition.
On the professional side, Kate is the director of events and outreach for the Ohio State Chiropractic Association, where she does media training, consumer relations, crisis, and events (more than 50 of them!).
She’s a new reader here, so I suggest you be nice to her…at least for today. But do follow her on Twitter, subscribe to her blog, or connect with her on LinkedIn. And, while you’re at it, take her 30 day fitness challenge and record your results. Let’s see if, by Halloween, you’re feeling lean and have more energy, too!
